Dean rocks Idaho.. now he's off to Utah and Montana...
 http://www.journalnet.com/articles/2005/07/16/news/local/news02.txt

..."Bill Kibble certainly thinks Dean's message can take root in Idaho, a state where less than 20 percent of state legislators are from the Democratic party.

Kibble, a Vietnam veteran who served 21 years in the Air Force, needed someone to vent to by the rally's end.

"(The Republicans) are such hypocrites," said the Boise native. "The way it is now, the only people who are sacrificing are the men and women in the armed forces and their families.

"It's terrible."

Others expressed similar feelings as they crowded around Dean, hoping for a chance to meet the chairman and see if he really was as optimistic as he seemed.

"I was a Republican, but you've converted me," confessed one woman.

Guess they have other things on their minds just now.

3. 500 in Idaho! I would not have expected that.
"Nearly 500 people showed up in Boise's Julia Davis Park to cheer on his every salvo.

"We need a president who's the president of all Americans and not just his Americans," Dean said, sparking vociferous applause. "The worst thing he's done is set us against each other."

During a half-hour speech, Dean advocated for health insurance for all Americans, blasted Tom DeLay and Karl Rove and, with his index finger piercing the air, accused Republicans of treating veterans like dirt.

Then he turned his attention to a local issue when he said: "Imagine the Senate closing their committee hearings so the public doesn't know what's going on. We can do better than that."

4. It's about time
We need to deliver a message to these people that goes beyond party lines and speaks to the issues. With all the agriculture up there they are better off voting for the Dems because of agriculture subsidies.

5. I hope he comes to Nebraska
What more do people need to know than the rethugs are trying to send your jobs overseas or put your farm out of business and we are trying to stop them? If I didn't have any other problems with the repubs, that would be enough reason to vote democrat for me!

6. Nice blog there: "43rd State Blues"..DFA had a food drive at rally.
This is a great idea. A real community spirit.

http://www.43rdstateblues.com/

"In the spirit of Dean Corps (now DFA Corps), the Idaho Progressive Caucus and Boise Democracy for America will hold a food drive for the Idaho Food Bank at the picnic with Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean this Friday, July 15, from noon to 1 at Julia Davis Park Bandshell in Boise.

People planning to attend the Idaho Democratic Party-sponsored picnic (suggested donation $25; box lunches provided) are asked to bring along a food donation, too. Suggested items include tuna, peanut butter, dried beans and peas, canned meats, cereal, crackers, rice, oatmeal, pasta, sugar, flour, oil, cleaning supplies and personal care items."

7. I tear up when I read
stuff like this..

"I was a Republican, but you've converted me," confessed one woman."

I know what all it must have taken to go through that metamorphosis.

And thank you, Bill Kibble!

"Bill Kibble certainly thinks Dean's message can take root in Idaho, a state where less than 20 percent of state legislators are from the Democratic party.

Kibble, a Vietnam veteran who served 21 years in the Air Force, needed someone to vent to by the rally's end."

10. Great pic I found of Dean and the crowd there.

It is good when the states give him good coverage. It helps defeat the right wing machine and deflate it a little.

On Edit: I forget to credit the photographer for this great photo.

From the Idaho Stateman:
http://www.idahostatesman.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050716/NEWS01/507160319

"Howard Dean was deep inside enemy territory Friday, delivering an optimistic speech in Boise's Julia Davis Park outlining a new Democratic strategy to break the Republican grip on national politics.

"Often blasted by Republicans for being inflammatory, Dean was even-toned Friday, though he did take a few shots at the Iraq war and what he called Bush's unwillingness to listen to anyone who doesn't agree with him. "He's the president of 51 percent of the people," he said. "He doesn't want to be president of (the people) who didn't vote for him."

Dean received a rousing ovation after his speech, and many long-suffering Democrats in the crowd were upbeat about the future of the party."

11. You know what's on their faces? Hope.
Seeing Howard's baby brother, Jim, last night was nice and inspiring. He has such hope and is so encouraging. He is an outspoken man also. He has confidence.

What Howard Dean gives is bigger than policy and issues, and it is one reason his campaign took off. He offered hope when all we had been hearing were platitudes.

So that is what is on those faces in that crowd in the picture.

Howard Dean Gets Idaho's Values

Howard Dean, on the 28th stop of his 50-state tour as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, dispensed goodies and made a plausible case Friday for revival of the most downtrodden state party in the nation.

"The Rocky Mountain states are the most fertile ground for improving our position of any region in the country," Dean said in an interview after a rally and fund-raiser in Boise. "The South is a long-term project, but we're ready to go here."

Dean's speech, private strategy talk and Q-and-A that followed showed how an obscure governor from Vermont became the front-runner for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination. He was smart, genuine, full of flash.

"The Rockies are promising because the political culture is rooted in libertarian, not Republican values, Dean said. He's right: There's a history of success by plain-spoken populist Democrats like four-term Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield of Montana. And the GOP has lost its bearings, running up record deficits, starting a war, and intruding in personal lives."

"Dean said the country may be on the verge of a reversal reminiscent of 1994, when GOP House leader Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" tossed Democrat rascals like Rep. Larry LaRocco in Idaho and won the GOP the Congress for the first time in 40 years."

"Gingrich won by being in your face, tough as nails and distinguishing himself from us," Dean said.
"And now we have a chance — because people are kind of fed up with the Republicans — to position ourselves as the party of change."
