TPM Links Jeff Gannon to the leak about the memo!
On Oct. 28, Talon News, a news company tied to a group called GOP USA, posted on the Internet an interview with Wilson in which the Talon News questioner asks: "An internal government memo prepared by U.S. intelligence personnel details a meeting in early 2002 where your wife, a member of the agency for clandestine service working on Iraqi weapons issues, suggested that you could be sent to investigate the reports. Do you dispute that?"

The questioner, of course, was Jeff Gannon.

Edited to add that, in his July 13th entry, Gannon provides a link to a transcript of the Wilson interview.

3. How the hell would Gannon/Guckert
have access to an internal government memo? (Unless he was lying about this.) He wasn't even a real reporter, for crissakes. When is this little nugget going to be jumped on?

6. That interview
got him a subpoena from the Prosecutor. If you read it though, you'll see that he doesn't say he saw it, and that's what he told the prosecutor. He had been boasting about his scoops on Freerepublic, but when questioned about how he knew about the memo, (we now know that as probably the same memo Colin Powell was waving around on Airforce One in July, 2003) he told the prosecutor that he never saw it but read about it in a Washington Post article.

I remember reading a conversation on FR between Jeff Gannon and another poster named John Galt, where he was being challenged about this. It's beginning to have more interesting implications. Will have to check that again, if I can find it.

Gannon's links appear on the swift boats site as well. Along with a fellow GOPUSA and even Armstrong Williams, his story was called "The Massachusetts Butcher".

He interviewed Rove mano e. mano.

And he's got a purdy head to pat.

By the way, Guckert stood next to Scot Robinson the woman kicker at the RNC. He was the person who pushed the woman down until secret service arrived.

Sure would be interesting to know where he was sitting when that picture was taken.

Can anyone enhance the picture enough to see the titles of any of the books on the shelf?

What is that sign that is partially blocked?

Wonder what the inside of Rove's office looks like?

Sooner or later this is going to come full circle back to Rove. (No pun intended.)

Guckert in Texas? Folks, thus far all roads have (none / 0)

led back to Texas. I've googled "Guckert Texas" and keep coming up with Denise Guckert that was originally mentioned back when this whole search started. Is it possible that Denise is his mother or sister and he went to TX to live with her? This Denise is also described as a "Technical Specialist" and her name pops up all over the place in Ausin, TX - where Scott McClellan is from and where the President's wife gave her an award and a grant. Either that or she could be married to Guckert's brother. I believe somewhere along the way he mentioned his brother's family being threatened (which I find total BS.)

Could be nothing, but I find it incredible that Guckert moves to DC around the same time that Bush Co moves in and I suspect that he knew somebody in Texas quite well before the move.....

12. Take a look at the two previous paragraphs!
Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't the quoted WP story saying that this latest memo is fake?

Sources said the CIA is angry about the circulation of a still-classified document to conservative news outlets suggesting Plame had a role in arranging her husband's trip to Africa for the CIA. The document, written by a State Department official who works for its Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), describes a meeting at the CIA where the Niger trip by Wilson was discussed, said a senior administration official who has seen it.

CIA officials have challenged the accuracy of the INR document, the official said, because the agency officer identified as talking about Plame's alleged role in arranging Wilson's trip could not have attended the meeting.

17. That's interesting
It does sound as though the CIA is saying it was faked. So, was that the memo Colin Powell got, or was the one he got used to create a fake memo? So, Gannon/Guckert was told about the fake memo and told to put the question to Joe Wilson as if it were real. And JW must have been surprised by that, that the CIA would tell a lie like that.

What sleazebags they are!! I hope Fitzgerald is putting all these pieces together and can nail every last one of them, including the guy who signed that. I also read today that Michael Ledeen was in Italy around the time the forged Niger documents surfaced (traced to Italy).

It gets stranger and stranger ~ and all the pieces seem to be falling into place ~ all the disconnected stories, DSM, Plame outing, Forged Niger docs, Spy in the Pentagon, British WMD Inspector, Dr. Kelly and the BBC, the Bolton Hearings (Dems being refused his St. Dept. investigations into certain people) all are connected, it seems, and of course the incredible, male prostitute, fake reporter, Jeff Gannon!! It all has to do with covering up the WMD lies they told! They were frantic to cover the lies. As John Dean said, 'it's worse than Watergate'.

If only the media had pursued the Jimmy Jeff story. It might have led all the way to the leaker and saved the prosecutor a little time and effort! Eg, it would be interesting now to check the CIA logs of Jimmy Jeff's trips to the WH. Did he stay overnight between July 7 and July 12th? While Airforce One was flying to Africa and Rove was taking care of business with Novak and Time and reporting back to Hadley? That seems to be the critical time period!!

19. Gannon WH visits:
Interesting question. July was a busy month for JG, with 13 trips, and 2 more trips are listed as "Denise Guckert." None of the vists were between 7/3/03 and 7/14/03 which includes Bush's Africa trip. However, that doesn't prevent phone/email/offsite contacts between JG and someone in the WH.

Here are the relevant Gannon WH logs:
http://rawstory.rawprint.com/0405/guckert_access_a9
http://rawstory.rawprint.com/0405/guckert_access_a12

It is fascinating that this one thing (leaking Plame's employment) happens to be at the exact center of the web of deceit....

for that, Starfury ~ yes, the prosecutor seems to be focusing on July, 2003, particularly between July 7 through the 12th.

There was a flurry of activity during that period.

Airforce One left for Africa on the 7th and returned on the 12th.

Rove talked to Novak and Cooper during that period ~

Another date to check, it's late and the OP probably gives the date, but when Jeff Gannon interviewed Joe Wilson ~

Your post says Gannon wasn't at the WH until the 14th, two days after the Africa trip. I wonder how long it took them to get the fake memo ready, assuming the CIA is correct and it was fake.

With all that activity in July, it's no wonder the prosecutor wants the phone records from Airforce One!

He did take a bit of a break, starting from a couple of days BEFORE the Africa trip until a couple of days AFTER the Africa trip!!

It looks like two days before, and two after the trip. Wasn't the trip from July 6th - July 12th?

Ari Fleischer was on the trip, so it's likely there were no press conferences during that period.

37. AIRC, he righted his story
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 04:49 PM by Catrina
after the Special Prosecutor got in touch with him. I remember him saying that he had not seen the memo he had talked about to Joe Wilson, but that he had read about it in an article in the WP.

I just checked his website to see if I could find the date on which he was interviewed by the prosecutor's office, and this is what he is NOW saying about the memo!!

I acquired knowledge of the memo and the Wall Street Journal reported on it, but no other media outlet mentioned it.

I confronted Wilson about it in a September 2003 interview, for which I was rewarded by a visit from two FBI agents. All of the their questions surrounded the document they could "neither confirm nor deny" even existed. They were not interested in what I had heard that suggested a cell at the agency was actively undermining the Bush administration, payback for being blamed for not preventing the 9/11 attacks. When Porter Goss became the CID in 2004, some familiar names quickly headed for the exits. Grumblings from faithful leakers to the mainstream press indicated that Goss was looking into this.

http://www.jeffgannon.com/archives/2005/06/index.html

Once again he seems to be implying that he had special access to the memo, although this time, he leaves himself an out with the mention of the WSJ, or tries to. If that's what he has in mind, he better forget it, because according to this, the first time the WSJ mentioned the memo was on Oct.17!!

October 17:
David S. Cloud from the Wall Street Journal is the first to mention (other than Novak) the existence of the 2002 CIA memo that purports to show that Plame recommended Wilson for the Niger mission. <32>

http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Plame_Leak_timeline

So from where did Jeff 'acquire knowledge of the memo'? The first time the WSJ mentioned the CIA memo was on Oct. 17, so his little addition of 'and the WSJ reported on it', doesn't explain or give him cover for where he got it. Unless he's going to go back again, if the FBI pays him another visit (they might want to see this blog) to saying he got it from the WaPo.

33. Maybe a little sick, but... (Warning -- disgusting thought.)
Gannon was paid to pee on people. Turdblossom stinks as a name. Could it follow that Rove is a political blossom smelling like excrement?

Rove is not the kind of guy who stops talking, especially while in rare intimate moments where accepted for his predilection he feels compelled by a sad past to display his political accumen.

I think there is a lot to the gay underground in DC. With several out and not-out suspects like Melmen, Rove, Drudge, et. al. who may or may not be gay, but, seem to have such connect.

Sorry if thsi is too objectionable.

35. The memo in that article is the one..
that is going to bring down the whole Bush administration. It was CLASSIFIED, and shared with people not authorized to see it. And, it put Plame and all those other undercover agents working at her "front" company, and the whole mission in danger. In fact, it brought their mission to a halt--which IMO, is what Bushco wanted to happen, because they were the ones standing in the way of the US going to WAR. It is not a breach of the law against outing CIA officers--it is a breach of the ESPIONAGE act. And, it's treason.

To paraphrase that act--ANYONE sharing classified information with people not authorized to see it is, by definition, a SPY against the United States. If you are unauthorized to receive it, and it comes to you, and instead of immediately reporting it, you share it with another unauthorized person--you, too are guilty of SPYING.

It does not matter which way the information flowed. From Rove to Novak, or from Novak to Rove, or from Rove to Gannon, or Gannon to Miller, or Miller to Novak, or Miller to Rove to Novak.

If people are passing around CLASSIFIED info to unauthorized persons-----regardless of MOTIVE---it is a breach of the Espionage act.

And, anyone involved in covering up the crime of spying, is also guilty--even if they didn't themselves see the memo. Which is why I think Judy is in jail---she doesn't want to have to take the 5th, becaues she then tells the world that she's pretty much guilty.

Go here:
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/uscode/

and in the "search" field, type 18USC793, and after reading it, go back to same "search field" and type 18USC792.

It's not about outing a CIA officer only--it's about SPYING on the US government--and, it's damned serious business.
