Does Karl Rove have a printing press in his basement?
It appears that all we ever hear about anymore is "forged " or "fake" documents. I am starting to believe this is one of Rove's favorite tactics and I think it is becoming an identifier of all things Bush:

faked or forged TANG document in Rathergate- passed to Rather by we still don't know who. The Right was prepped to rise up in about 2 nano-seconds to start questioning fonts, etc. I don't think they had time to even read the documents before they were coming out with detailed analysis as to how they must be fake. End result - Rather down for the count and all TANG related coverage effectively tainted for good.

Forged Niger yellowcake document prepared by we still don't know. This is absolutely the intelligence being fixed around the facts. Read "roll-back" on the Huffington log by Jay Rosen who discusses how Bush has turned intelligence on it's head by basically demanding intelligence that supports their pre-ordained vision.Do they just order up whatever supporting intelligence they need and want at some clandestine MEMOS R US store ? Of course, practices like that would mean we would be ignoring the reality based intelligence and making ourselves more vulnerable and less safe, but who are we to quibble? We do not know at this time (or at least I don't) if Valerie Wilson's reality based analysis of WMD was causing any irritation to the White House. If so, leaking about her status was a two-fer - discredit Wilson and inactivate her.

Forged documents are a two-way street. Sometimes they work well, like the TANG case and sometimes they backfire like the yellowcake docs.

Screaming FAKE worked with TANG, so the Rightwing tried it again briefly with the DSM but had no success. I think they had no success because it was of foreign (British) origin and no ever really considered its authenticity to be an issue. But, that didn't stop them from trying.

I think I am forgetting some other good examples - if so, please remind me.

1. I wonder...
why detectives cannot seem to find where all these docs were forged?
Seems like a straight forward issue.
:wtf:

5. The source of the Niger yellow-cake docs is disputed.

Former CIA CT officer Vince Calistrano has said he thinks their origins are domestic. Others have pointed to a coordinated effort by Israeli intel to plant WMD materials into DoD files via their friends in the now-defunct Pentagon Office of Special Plans (OSP). 6. Whoever passed the TANG document to Rather...
passed it to the Right first, I think.

For those of you who joined us after Bush stole the 2004 election, there were three theories as to these documents:

Theory 1: It's real. There's two ways to approach this one. We know that Bush's TANG (that's "Texas Air National Guard." I'm Rachael Ray. Good night and God Bless You All.) file was purged of all incriminating documents before he ran for governor of Texas. Someone could have grabbed the thrown-out documents out of the trash and retained them for further use. The other way is to consider that no officer ever makes one copy of anything--he makes an original, runs six copies for distribution, and retains the original in his files. Either way, we know Bush was not the finest officer ever to wear the uniform.

Theory 2: The document's not real but the information in it is accurate. Looking back, this is probably the case. Remember the general's secretary they dragged onto 60 Minutes? "No, I never typed this memo, but Bush really was a worthless officer."

Theory 3: The document's fake and so is the information in it. Lieutenant Bush was a fine upstanding fellow and a credit to the officer corps, which explains why he left the service as a first lieutenant. (Anyone who really believes this has THREE Free Republic accounts because one won't do when you're that far to the right.)

What's a fake document got to do with Rove? Remember what he was up against--Draft Dodger Bush against a no-shit War Hero. Rove had to do two things--defuse Bush's own military record, and turn Kerry into a guy who was dodging the draft by hiding out in Vietnam, as Bob Boudelang put it. The quickest way to turn Bush into the greatest fighter jock since Tom Cruise ran down the enemy MiGs? Put together a fake memo and send it first to the Right (along with a complete technical description of why it was fake), then to Dan Rather who would jump on it. Obviously, if the memo is fake so is everything in it, right?

7. White House spin has lost it's punch....
I think Karl Rove can "retrieve" any memos he wants and "remember" even more details, but after hearing five years of "explanations" for numerous scandals in this administration, the American people are finally burned out. In the recent NBC/WSJ poll, it was found that only 41% of us still believe that Bush is an honest guy. The spin machine is breaking apart. Once you know you've been lied to, it is almost impossible to trust again.
