WASHINGTON - That testy, anxious feeling that has been gathering strength this past week finally has a name: Rove Rage.

"I think we've exhausted discussion on this the last couple of days," McClellan told reporters. Responded one, "You haven't even scratched the surface."

Beyond the White House, voices on the left were triumphant, claiming their e-mail campaign had goaded the somnambulant White House press corps into action. But that's one of the pitfalls of getting the news from blogs. Any regular reader of White House briefing transcripts knows that it's customary for reporters to ask aggressive questions — and for the press secretary to dodge, weave or stonewall.

The Republican National Committee, apparently unconstrained by the same investigatory issues that silenced the White House, urgently dispatched com-muniques, talking points and press releases describing the affair as more partisan attacks. One RNC document quoted Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, a neighbor and longtime friend of Rove. "Sadly, these attacks are more of the same kind of anger and lashing out that has become the substitute for bipartisan action and progress," Cornyn said.

3. I have lost so much respect for Cornyn

since he became my senator. I didn't agree with him most of the time, but I at least gave him some credit for some intellectual integrity. But since he became a senator, he assumed the role of nothing more than the mindless attack dog on a chain.

Don't any of you tell me your Senator is worse, either. This SOB took Enron's money, flatly refused to return it, has been in bed with Karl Rove since the early '90's, considers Rick Santorum a role model, and NEVER RESPONDS to a dissenting constituent's letters or e-mail.

He's a stealth Ashcroft, and he will be in the Senate long after Santorum is defeated this coming November.

The majority of Republicans, I believe, are the same way here for obvious reasons. They want to be sure Rove is metaphorically 'dead and buried' before they sick their heads out and we have to be mindful of that. Same with DeLay. These guys are two very viscious, animalistic revenge-seekers and no one is immune.
