One thing to remember about the Bush Administration...
They have no patience. They will do something when things are not going well - even if it is reckless. They believe in action. They are telling everyone that we should wait on the prosecutor's report and should not be "pre-judging" what might happen. However, it is they that cannot wait. They will do something to try and stifle or end this report. They are in a terrible predicament because they don't know how to do it. And it is probably driving them insane?

3. Well so far the best they can do is REPLAY THE ORIGINAL ATTACK on WlLSON
All they can come up with is to give us a repeat of the original Wilson smear, a little louder.

Only now supplemented w the incredible claim that Karl Rove is an "ebullient, straightforward, decent, honorable guy" (Sen Hatch). Which anybody who has been paying the slightest bit of attention knows is simple insane.

Or that Mr. Rove "deserves a medal"

Which anybody knows is nuts too -- because if he deserved a medal for revealing Plame, why did he lie about it for 2 years?

4. As I've mentioned often...
... all the smoke issuing from pro-administration sources this week is meant to have a political impact--because it's all coming from Rove's office, and that's what Rove knows. Politics. He doesn't know a goddamned bit about the law (given that he's done his best in his career to skirt around it). All the politicking in the world isn't likely to change what a grand jury decides about indictments.

If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail... and to Rove, even another, different kind of hammer looks like a nail. :) That's why the sudden barrage of contradictory information. It's the same dirty-tricks political solution that's worked for him every time in the past--in politics. But, this ain't politics, so it's not likely to work, and I'm not sure Rove's figured that out.

Changing public opinion doesn't change the evidence as it is, when the matter is before the court. It's a different kind of court than the court of public opinion Rove is used to manipulating. Yeah, I think it's got him and a few others gnawing the furniture. :P

5. At the very least he may be guilty of perjury
and maybe a host of other offense - I dont think it matters how Rove spins this.
Its all he knows how to respond.
