Hearings on Iraq still going on now.
There were some gems of truth hidden in all the rhetoric- notably the casual acknowledgement that the US has "strategic energy interests" in Iraq. That little nugget trumps all arguments claiming moral objectives, so how can any politician call for more troops, or claim that we must succeed in some honorable purpose - if it is about imperial plunder?

1. Not to put myself too far in advance
But I will also be checking out this hearing. The new revelations by Sy Hersh about 'fixing' the Iraqi elections should make this a very interesting hearing.

4. Is there any reason they schedule d this hearing on Monday morning
at a time when most senators are still in their states or flying back to Washington?

It seems to me that they are trying to avoid too many questions and publicity.

5.  Avoiding publicity maybe
but there is a broad discussion of a great many questions previously not officially up for debate.
