History repeats Itself with Dirty Tricks in NH
I'm guessing most of you have read about the NH voters receiving phone calls in the middle of the night - purportedly by the Dean campaign? Deans people have already made a statement denying that they are making the calls, and some people are speculating which campaign is REALLY doing this.

Well - this IDENTICAL trick was used by the GOP in the 1972 primaries when they didn't want to face Muskie - who was the front runner, until he was undone by all the dirty tricks. In case you're not old enough to remember - the nomination went to McGovern - who was thoroughly trounced and only won two states in the general election.

Eye on the prize, people - Someone is afraid of Dean!

In the days before the March 7 New Hampshire Primary
blue collar workers in Manchester, NH
found their phones ringing after midnight
with fake Muskie questions.

There were two types of calls:
1. when the caller identified himself as a member of the “Harlem for MuskieCommittee:
and promised that Senator Muskie would deliver “full justice for Black people”
2. when the caller identified himself as a Muskie pollster, and asked
the midnight call recipient for whom he or she was voting
Then quickly the fake Nixon pollster would call back 2, 3, 4 times with the same question.

1. This same thing happened in Iowa too
John Kerry didn't win Iowa because he was better liked. He won because someone was sabotaging Dean by annoying and pissing off Iowans with these exact kinds of calls. The Dean campaign is NOT doing the robocalls AT ALL, ANYWHERE.

My guess is that it is either the GOP or John Kerry. I hope they catch whoever is behind it and throws their ass in jail for elections fraud. Dirty bastards!

9. I don't think it's Kerry
I think the DLC is sabotaging Dean. Think about it, Dean has become a real threat to the old party hacks and anointed kingmakers within the beltway by going to the net and building a huge grassroots organization. No matter what you may think of his politics or his record, this is an astonishing achievement.

The old party hacks are quaking in their Guccis. If Dean should by some miracle get the nod, they all have to go find new jobs. Maybe the GOP will take them.

2. Are people in New Hampshire so dumb as to think a campaign would...
...call at 2:30 in the morning? Friggin' stupid people.

Later.

Republicans are into phone banks, it seems.

6. Here's another one
This is almost SOP for the GOP, but I was struck by the similarity to the 1972 campaign because just like now - they started their tricks in the primary - to put someone more "beatable" into the general election.

I've been somewhat of a Dean supporter - but largely undecided. The more I see of this crap the more strongly I want to support Dean. Something is going on..... and it scares them.

GOP operative admits to fraud
By Daniel Borenstein
TIMES POLITICAL EDITOR

A five-year East Bay political mystery was partially solved this week when a Republican political operative pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge and admitted approving a fraudulent campaign mailer and phone operation.

4. With the cabal you "watch what they do...not what they say..."
I knew all along they were afraid if Dean...they don't know how to handle a grass roots organization of voters coming alive..speaking out...contributing so the candidate is not owned like the rest of them.

They may do him in...but Dean has awakened all of us. He has started something that won't die anytime soon.

5. Yep, the RNC is afraid of Dean.
John Kerry is the beneficiary of these tactics.

8. Temporarily at least. It's in the RNC's best interest to cause
as much friction as possible in this primary campaign, to keep it going as long as possible.

They want Dean to RUN OUT OF MONEY.

10. I really doubt this is a Dem campaign doing this
If evidence were produced proving complicity, that campaign would rightfully be spat upon by all. Handing out flyers is one thing, deliberately misrepresenting yourself as another campaign is quite another. :puke:
