Gore: New TV Channel Won't Be Partisan
By LYNN ELBER, AP Television Writer
Mon Jul 18, 11:59 PMUPDATED 2 HOURS 55 MINUTES AGO

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Former Vice President Al Gore, co-founder of a new television channel launching next month, said he's shunning politics - and so is his media venture.

"I consider myself a recovering politician. I'm on step nine," Gore told a meeting Monday of the Television Critics Association.

The 2004 Democratic candidate for president was asked if he was concerned the 24-hour news and information channel, called Current, would be perceived as having a political slant. It's scheduled to launch Aug. 1.

"I think the reality of the network will speak for itself. It's not intended to be partisan in any way," said Gore, Current's co-founder (with businessman Joel Hyatt) and chairman of the board.

He says the politics of his station will stay neutral. That sort of disappointed me. But, maybe with him at the helm, they'lll at least be honest and "balanced".

1. That kind of attitude is exactly why we could use him as president.
Damn.

3. Sounds like he's trying to give his station unbiased cred.
It won't work though. They're going to be liberal one way or another.

4. Well, at least it may not be "corporatized"...
at least for a while. We may get some real news there. And, even the real news will be better than the corporatized, homogenized, right-slanted crap we get now 24/7!

6. I'm sorry, I'm not following...
are you saying Gore's network is already corporatized? Or are you saying it won't matter to Bush's "business as usual"?

11. If Gore TV reports facts and actually reports the news * and co are sunk
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 01:14 PM by Rambis
No way in hell * can withstand a factual report on anything. They can't because they are to busy covering the last lie. The bushies will scream bloody murder and partisan liberal press just like they always do but maybe the truth wins the day? I hope this makes sense?

7. I miss Al Gore
But, I certainly understand his wanting to get out of politics.

It sounds to me like his nirvana is elsewhere.
