warning to all Utah public school teachers you "will be dealt with"

if you teach evolution

http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_2864394

Evolution not yet extinct in schools
So far: The state says subject will continue, but a legislator says those who teach the concept "will be dealt with"

The official in charge of Utah's public school curriculum said Friday there will be no change in the way human evolution is taught, despite a state senator's claims to the contrary.
Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, had earlier suggested he would propose legislation that would enforce the teaching of alternative concepts of human existence. Now he says conversations with the state superintendent of schools have left him confident that teachers who teach the evolution of humanity "will be dealt with."

Superintendent Patti Harrington was not immediately available for comment, but on Wednesday told The Associated Press, "There is not enough evidence yet to claim how the earth was created and no evidence to connect the family of apes with the family of man."

and the rest of the world looks on at america's dumb and stupidness.

16. Mountain Meadows Massacre
Utah

Home of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. This wouldn't be the first time that the Mormons have "dealt with" those that were different.

Only this time the Mormons will have to do it without the assistance of the Paiute Indians.

9. I've been building my book collection for a few years now,
ever since I realized the pool of publishers were shrinking, and that a book can just not be published anymore.
It's a form of censorship that most folks aren't even aware of.

13. Same here
I fear that these fools may ban science, non-Christian religious, manga, fantasy, and others just so they can be comfortable and pretend to be right. I recommend everyone to build a library for a subject you care about dearly such as liberal politics, Buddhism, history, or whatever gets you interest. Best way we can preserve some knowledge and reform it once these guys wreak our nation.

18. Yes, the nut jobs are capable of banning anything that doesn't
prop up their agenda.
They've already been rewriting history for years, why should anything else be off limits?

21. If you don't mind a personal question,
what titles/topics are you collecting?

This might be a good question to ask all of DU.

8. A woman at work told me women can decide the sex of their children
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 01:24 PM by AllyCat
by the types of thoughts they have at the time of conception (peaceful thoughts=girl, troubled thoughts=boy). Another woman piped in saying she was pretty sure the whole male XY chromosomal configuration cinced up the sex of children. First woman walked away.

We stood there dumbfounded...and then I said, "well, we wouldn't want good science to get in the way of unreality, now would we?". The MD next to me blew coffee out her nose.

And this isn't even in UTAH!!!

I'm thinking homeschooling for our child in the making...

25. Why don't we just read frickin' chicken entrails?
Perhaps writing holy words on bones and then throwing them in the fire to see which words are cracked when the fire burns down?

Pouring molten lead into water and divining from the shapes that form?

Science? Who the hell needs science in Bush's Happy Jesusland?

17. Maslow.... still rummaging around trying to meet survival needs...
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 01:45 PM by liberalitch
this an all encompassing task made that way by the fact that in their "rummaging" they do self defeating things: for our ancients it was something like.... leaving the remains of a dead animal outside the cave where you sleep. For modern man it consists of doing things like... voting republican.
Either way you've set it up for the wild animals to come in and tear you a new ass hole.
In effect superstition keeps them from looking beyond that to metaneeds...

They are reduced to worship, eat, sleep, breathe,.... don't pee yet, don't pee yet.

14. If I were an earth science of biology teacher in Utah now...
I would contact a fledgling film student in a utah university (unless of course michael moore wants in on the action) and GO FOR IT!!!!
I mean teach my ass off.... become an activist for evolutionary science.... be really public about it... film that part.
If nothing happens it could still be a good film, BUT IF the shit does hit the fan then..... super size me, bush's brain and f911... look out!

Even more importantly..... RW freaks look out

Sadly this is what the state of affairs has come to in the U.S. with regards to our children's math & science education. Some of them grew up to become Sup'ts (and even Presidents, yuck).
