Women's Groups Actively Oppose Roberts, the Stealth-Scalia
While other liberal groups adopt a wait and see attitude, women's groups are reacting in alarm to *'s SCOTUS nominee, Roberts.

At the NARAL site you can emai your Senator to vote "NO" on Roberts (my, that was fast!)

http://www.naral.org/

Then there is NOW.

http://www.now.org/press/07-05/07-19.html

"Among our many concerns, Roberts actively opposes Roe v. Wade and wrote several amicus briefs while a Deputy Solicitor General. In one case where Roe was not even at issue, his brief offered gratuitously "Roe was wrongly decided and should be overruled." He also wrote a brief in a case NOW brought against Operation Rescue* in an effort to stop violent blockades at abortion clinics. His brief and oral argument supported Operation Rescue, and argued that the blockades were merely an expression of opposition to abortion."

"The nomination of John G. Roberts raises serious questions and grave concerns for women's health and safety. It is particularly troubling that Roberts went on the record calling for Roe v. Wade to be overturned when he served as a lawyer for the government," said Karen Pearl, interim president of PPFA. "Only a nominee committed to protecting women's health and safety should be confirmed by the Senate. A lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court requires a confirmation process that is thoughtful, intelligent, and fully deliberated — the Senate owes the American public nothing less."

Even if you are not a woman, I am sure you know one or two. As you are deciding whether or not it is worth giving Roberts careful scrutiny, please consider the famous words "Remember the ladies!"

1. Well that's no surprise at all.
Not only do I not blame them, but I fully support their fight and have already donated as much as I possibly can to NARAL. I will also join any area protests they will stage.

I do not think it will make a lick of difference though. We can't win a filibuster fight, nor would it be prudent to try. He's going to be confirmed.

I was dismayed that NARAL didn't make as much noise as they could have during the 2004 election. I do, however, understand their vast budgetary restrictions, in that they need a lot of money to go towards helping women directly.
