Kos Story / SCOTUS pick Roberts helped Oliver North fund Contras!
Haven't read it through yet? Could this be true?

http://dailykos.com/story/2005/7/20/145011/979

If it is the same John Roberts, could Jr. have picked him hoping the heat would be off of Rove and Libby for awhile because Roberts is so controversial he'll stay in the news cycle longer.

Ok, I'll go back to reading the story now.

1. Oh man! this gets better by the minute/
Rove can cause all the contraversy he wants, maybe he gets out of the medias scrutiny for a minute -but not the special prosecuters, haha!

4. I don't know how much 'better' it is, but it sure is interesting.
They want to deflect from the new scandal by bringing in somebody who had a part in the old scandals.

My head is spinning. :eyes:

It might be the WRONG John Roberts.

23. I was just thinking it would make him a little YOUNG
He's only 50 now, and Iran Contra was in the very early 80s, wasn't it? That would've made him 25 or so, not impossibly young to have been involved, but pretty young to have been much more than a side figure. And wouldn't he have been in law school at the time????

24. No John G Roberts was in the White House 82-86
But we don't know if it is he or the political aide John B. Roberts. That's why KOS poster deleted his own story and issued this apology:

There Are 2 John Roberts
by Sherlock Google
Wed Jul 20th, 2005 at 13:25:20 PDT

John Roberts Jr. and John B. Roberts, who both served in the Reagan White House. I have deleted the previous diary about the SCOTUS Pick Roberts being involved with the Iran-Contra Affair. It appears the other John Roberts may be the one mentioned in the Walsh Report, so we have to see.

Sorry for all the commotion and I sincerely apologize to Kos and the judge for not googling further.

2. Rude Pundit alluded to these
this morning....

if it's the same guy Bush has SUCCESSFULLY created another controversy to take the heat off of Rove...

and

cynically used Roberts as a sacrificial lamb....

5. If this is the same Roberts, then dredging up Iran Contra is just great
Then we can talk about GHW Bush and Reagan and how it's all one big damned dynasty that should come to end right here and now.

I hope Randi Rhodes saw this. After her dust up with North, I'm sure she'd be delighted to break it all down, too.

9. I don't believe in your theory
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 03:01 PM by rocknation
But I believe in the theory that Rove and Cheney could have TOLD Bush to pick Roberts because he's so controversial he'll stay in the news cycle long enough to take the heat off Plamegate.

He's only been nominated for the job, and already they've left twenty bucks on his dresser.

13. If your assertion is correct...
Then that's a terrible criteria to use for selecting a SC justice. To get the heat off your adviser. But we know how much * cares what anyone thinks. :eyes:

12. This Seems Like Nexus Gone Awry
I'm not entirely convinced this is the same guy. These guys are pretty carefully vetted and despite theories about taking heat off Rove, who a President picks is part of their historical legacy. I can't see even Bush picking an appointee to the Supreme Court just to adjust the news cycle.

(Nexus is the search engine journalists use, if you were wondering)

15. Looks like Kos post is saying there are two Roberts John G. Roberts Jr.
who is the SCOTUS nominee, and was WH associate counsel from 1982 - 1986

The other Roberts is John B. Roberts II, was a 'policy planner' in the Reagan WH from 1981 - 1985, also described as a 'press aide', perhaps this is the one who 'helped' Ollie.

14. Not the same guy - check the comments
The Supreme Court nominee is John G. Roberts, Jr. He was an associate counsel in the White House counsel's office from 1982-1986.

John B. Roberts II was a "policy planner" in the Reagan White House from 1981-1985. This John Roberts is also described as a "press aide". That is consistent with what was going on in the excerpt from the Walsh report. It is thus highly likely that John B. Roberts II, and not John G. Roberts, Jr., is the man referred to in the excerpt from the Walsh report.

18. Please understand, we are dealing with a fascist cabal that has been
in existence for a long time. These cockroaches were hiding in their slimy, diseased nests under some rock, and were patiently planning their fascist takeover while Clinton was President. The selection of Bu*h in 2000 was part of an organized concerted effort by the fascists. They had to get the WH at all costs in 2000, no matter how corrupt their methods.

It should be obvious to everyone by now that all of the political appointments that take place while this cabal is in power are appointments of fascist loyalists, people that serve the party, not the country.

Roberts is the quintessential example of someone that was picked for his long term loyalty to the fascist cause and willingness to betray the people of the United States.

The fascists have now gained more than enough power to be able to manipulate the processes of government from within basically at will. Democratic processes are moot, barring a miracle.

Here is the DU PNAC Library, which is a good insight into the modern American fascist mind:

21. appears not to be the same John Roberts but while researching
John B. Roberts II I found this little article in the Moonie Times...
interesting
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20040930-082915-5728r.htm
entitled 'White House-CIA Breach by John B.Roberts II (the other one, who worked in the Reagan WH, I think at the same time as John G. Roberts Jr.) It is an article from October 2004, about Robert Novak revealing information about another CIA agent Paul R. Pillar who dares to defy the Preznit. What a coincidinky. Just read it.
