David vs Goliath, Paul Hackett needs our help
It has only been 4 months since Paul returned from Iraq, and he is running for congress in Ohio's 2nd district, a solid repub stronghold for decades.

This David (Paul) needs our help fighting the multitude of Goliaths in Ohio's 2nd district, we must help any way we can. He needs our help, badly. The Enquirer says dems usually don't have money to run in this district.

Here are excerpts from recent articles about him and the race:

The Cincinnati Enquirer:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee helped the Hackett campaign secure Carville's appearance and provided some fund-raising assistance that allowed the Hackett campaign to begin a TV ad campaign this week. That made Hackett the first Democratic candidate in decades who could afford TV ads in the 2nd District.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Hackett spent seven months in Iraq with the 1st Marine Division, completing his tour in March. He spent time in Fallujah during the fighting to occupy and reconstruct the city.

Last October, Hackett was commanding a convoy moving from Ramadi to Baghdad when his Humvee was rocked by a roadside bomb...

The Journal-News (Hamilton Ohio):

Hackett said he originally opposed the war in Iraq, “but we’re there now and must work our way out.” He has an exit strategy based on his experience on the ground there:

The Forest Hills Journal (Anderson Township, Clermont County, Ohio)

"I look at the economy in the last five years and as we all know, it has spiraled into an abyss, and economy is miserable," he said. "You know that when you go to the pump. You know that when you have to pay the rent, pay the mortgage. I will gladly give back the $600 I got from President Bush's tax cut in exchange of the healthy economy that we had in the '90s."

3. did I mention the election is on August 2nd 2005.
That's less than 2 weeks away.

I just read an article that Pauls' opponent outraised him 5-to-1, heck his opponent raised $ 50,000 by attending a lunch and a dinner.

Read on... - "GOP counting on ads, Dems on shoe leather"

Schmidt put together $253,000 for her race, including $200,000 of her own money, to the $52,000 raised by Hackett. Schmidt's figure doesn't include money raised on her recent trip to Washington.

That's where about 70 people attended the $500-per-person fund-raiser Wednesday evening, hosted by Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Columbus. About 30 guests showed up for a same-priced luncheon on Thursday, hosted by Rep. Tom Reynolds, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee - the arm of the GOP that raises money to elect Republicans to the House.

9. Hackett needs money, BADLY
Cincinnati Enquirer says Hackett trailing in fund raising by over 400k.

<http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050722/NEWS01/507220384/1056>

"Schmidt chips in another $20K for home stretch"

"GOP candidate has raised $406K more than Hackett so far"

<...>

Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show that Schmidt raised more than $620,000 as of Thursday, including nearly $220,000 of her own money. She had already spent $411,000.

<...>

According to Schmidt's report, her cash is coming from what looks like a "Who's Who" of Washington and Cincinnati.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois; Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas; the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman, Tom Reynolds of New York; and Rep. John Boehner of West Chester Township each gave Schmidt $10,000 through their political action committees. Rep. Steve Chabot of Westwood gave $1,000.

Even Tommy I'll DeLay my justice gave her $10,000. So Paul Hackett needs financial help, BADLY.

10. Last year--I gave every bit I could afford. It was hard to give again
But, this is an important race that can be won.
So, I broke my fast and gave. I hope everyone does the same.

11. I hope so too
some dems from my area (Northern Ohio) are headed down to Hackett's district to help with the campaign in its last few days.

Your donation from your heart brings a lot of goodwill to the campaign.

12. I hope he gets in...
It would be nice having an Iraq veteran in Congress. Especially if he's a Democrat.
