Today's WAPO front page will definitely
do some damage. There is no doubt in my mind that this was an ordered hit on Joe Wilson. This goes higher than Libby and Rove I believe. I am not saying Bush knew what was going on, but Old Fart Cheney almost certainly did. So much for the tempest in a teapot. Once indictments are handed down, not only should we call for Dubya's head, but Mehlman's for the lie he is perpetrating and all GOPers who stood around and spun the spin to get us wrapped up in this disgusting, inexcusable war. Okay I just had my coffee and I feel better...Viva la Freedom!

1. I am beginning to think that
the administration and the republicans in congress already know that the glory days are coming to an end. I agree with Randi's comment that the republicans are going to go down so badly that they will be out of power for the next 30 years, just like in the aftermath of Watergate.

3. I've been trying to keep up on that situation.
It's certainly being tagged a whole lot more than Florida was in '00. I'm tickled pink that it's not dying down. Shows that people aren't taking *'s crap lying down anymore.

5. Every spin point has been counterspun
And the corrupt Bush administration is looking like the corrupt bunch they are. So they burned a CIA asset and her front company just so they could maintain the fiction that they were launching a pre-emptive war on Iraq for legitimate reasons.

Real nice.

7. I Think Bush Has NO Idea Of What Goes On Over There
There was never any attempt by him to 'get to the bottom of it' as he SAID he wanted to do. He's just an empty suit, a puppet for evil puppeteers Rove, Cheney, Rummy, etc.

16. Exactly. He wakes up every monrning with a grin and
just plain shits himself thinking about how exciting it is to be prez. Then he eats breakfast and the puppeteers tell him what he thinks, what he is to say and do that day. It really isn't hard, becuase it is basically a rehash of what he had to say and do yesterday. Then he goes out and does it, to invitation-only crowds, and he smirks when they applaud. Then he shits himself again at the podium (it's so exciting, he can't help himself). In between events, his speech and language tutors attempt to give lessons on pronunciation and grammar, to no avail.

9. Rereading the article...what is this second to last paragraph about?
"(The memo) records that the INR analyst at the meeting opposed Wilson's trip to Niger because the State Department, through other inquiries, already had disproved the allegation that Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger. Attached to the INR memo were the notes taken by the senior INR analyst who attended the 2002 meeting at the CIA."

The Bushies already knew that there was nothing to the claim. Now they are smearing Joe Wilson about the same point? And then Bush repeats this a year later? Am I missing something?

12. You forgot this part...
On July 6, 2003, shortly after Wilson went public on NBC's "Meet the Press" and in The Post and the New York Times discussing his trip to Niger, the INR director at the time, Carl W. Ford Jr., was asked to explain Wilson's statements for Powell, according to sources familiar with the events. He went back and reprinted the June 10 memo but changed the addressee from Grossman to Powell.

Who is Carl W. Ford, Jr.? He was John Kokal's boss. Who is John Kokal? Well, he just happened to find life unliveable one week after the Wall Street Journal first mentioned this memo. Then there's this that I found:

Another INR official, weapons expert Greg Thielmann, said he and INR were largely ignored by Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton and his deputy, David Wurmser, a pro-Likud neo-conservative who recently became Vice President Dick Cheney's Middle East adviser. Kokal's former boss, the recently retired chief of INR, Carl W. Ford, recently said that Bolton often exaggerated information to steer people in the wrong directions.

So not only is John Kokal somehow directly tied to this through the fact that Carl Ford was his boss. We also know that John Bolton was right in the middle of this mess trying to hit and hide his dirty little hands.

10. I have a bad feeling the Bushies are going to try to dump this on Powell
It's obvious to me that this latest memo was leaked to the Washington Post by Karl Rove himself, or the White House. Expect the Bush Administration to leak several items in Fitzgerald's case to get ahead of the spin, instead of having these revelations come directly and dramatically from a prosecutor at the moment indictments are returned. Bush wants to control the timing of these revelations himself, if he can. In the same Washington Post article, we simultaneously learn that Karl Rove was asked about this memo and he denied ever seeing it. To me, that's the spin the White House is trying to achieve. If indictments are handed down, this will become a question of credibility and witness testimony, of the "he said - she said" variety. I have a sinking feeling that the Bush Administration is going to try to suggest that the identity of Valerie Plame was known only to the State Department and to Colin Powell and that Rove, Libby, et al. only learned bits and pieces of the information second hand, without directly knowing that she was actively being protected as a covert agent. This may not work and there are other legal hurdles in other statutes they may have to overcome. But I think the Bush Administration is going to try to get the American public to pre-judge this case, in their favor, according to their spin by selectively releasing evidence and that's a pretty ugly thing for them to do.

11. I have little respect for Powell anymore
but he certainly has the integrity and respect for the institutions of govt., and familiarity with the rules governing the "art of war" that would prevent him from leaking such treasonous info. I just do not think he is capable of doing anything deliberately to compromise "the mission (UN testimony not withstanding)." Rove, Cheney, and Libby on the other hand, have sold their souls for votes, and have demonstrated a pattern of character assassination at any cost.
