I don't know if I ever told about a bumpersticker I saw a in Phoenix, AZ .It was a while back, maybe almost a year. But I was in downtown Phoenix on I-10 when I saw a sticker that said:

Not that I would actually buy one.

But just in the interest of seeing if they're "fair and balanced."

Here's my idea:

Redneck Hunting Permit
No Bag Limit- Tagging Not Required- May be used while under the influence of single-malt scotch, micro-brewed beer, or pot. May be used to hunt Rednecks at NASCAR Events, Tractor Pulls, Cross Burnings, Bush Rallies, Backyard Wrestling, Cow Tippings, Meth Labs, Trailer Parks, Waterin' Holes, Line Dances, Prison Work Crews, and Rodeos.
MAY HUNT DAY OR NIGHT WITH OR WITHOUT DOGS.

23. Speaking of bumper stickers...
My aunt is a staunch Democrat, and proud. On the back of her car, she has several stickers such as, "Kerry/Edwards '04" and "Somewhere in Texas a village is missing their idiot."

Anyway, about four months ago, she was in the drive-thru at Taco Bell when a man got out of his car, kicked her bumper, and then asked her why she felt the need to disrespect our President. My aunt, not exactly a wallflower, replied that he was a dumbass who didn't deserve our respect. With that, the man hit her back window, called her a bitch, and caused my little cousin (11 years old) in the back to start sobbing. My aunt promptly called the cops on the jerk.

Not related to Bush bumper stickers but definetly angered me. I want to find that guy and kick his ass.

54. "Veterans for Bush" = McNamara's Moron Corps?
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 02:55 PM by IanDB1
An Army of (No) One
An inside look at the military's internet recruiting war.

<snip>

Assault and (Aptitude) Battery

Maj. Gen. Michael Rochelle, head of the Army Recruiting Command, recently stated, "Having access to 17- to 24-year-olds is very key to us. We would hope that every high school administrator would provide those lists to us. They're terribly important for what we're trying to do." In the wake of the revelation of the Pentagon's massive new database of America's youth, Chief Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita claimed, "We are trying to use appropriate methods to make ourselves competitive in the marketplace for these kids who have a lot of choices." But as Nation magazine editor Katrina vanden Heuvel recently wrote in her Editor's Cut blog, it isn't just choices keeping the kids away:

"The debacle in Iraq has made recruiting an impossibly difficult job and recruiters are sinking to new lows in the face of growing pressure to fulfill monthly quotas as well as fierce opposition from parents who don't support the President's botched Iraq war mission."

One of the military's new lows brings us back to the subject of ASVAB and the methods of the Vietnam-era. Faced then with the need for expendable troops, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara instituted an unholy coupling of the War on Poverty and the War in Vietnam -- Project 100,000. Project 100,000 called for the military, each year, to admit into service 100,000 men who had failed its qualifying exam. The program claimed that it would outfit those who failed to meet mental standards, men McNamara called the "subterranean poor," with an education and training that would be useful upon their return to civilian life. Instead of acquiring skills useful for the civilian job market, however, "McNamara's moron corps," as they came to be known within the military, were trained for combat at markedly elevated levels, were disproportionately sent to Vietnam, and had double the death rate of American forces as a whole.

Today, a desperate Pentagon seems to be following a strikingly similar path. As Eric Schmitt of the New York Times has written, the Army is increasingly turning to high-school dropouts, has already almost doubled last year's number of recruits scoring in the lowest level on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery and is "accepting hundreds of recruits in recent months who would have been rejected a year ago." Meanwhile, those who happen upon the Pentagon's ASVAB website will find another slick design, with few military trappings, no ".mil" web-address, and lots of objective career counseling. You have to troll around the site to discover in the fine print that it's offered as a "public service by the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Manpower Data Center."

McNamara's "Moron Corps"
HBO's "Path to War" leaves out some of the most shameful brainstorms of the Vietnam War's masterminds -- including a little-known recruitment program that turned the mentally and physically deficient into cannon fodder.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Myra MacPherson

printe-mail

May 29, 2002 | The highly acclaimed HBO movie, "Path to War", powerfully details President Lyndon Johnson's descent into the disastrous quagmire of Vietnam. LBJ is depicted, in part, as a victim of his defense secretary, Robert McNamara's, intellectual duplicity. But the film spares McNamara from the deeper moral condemnation he deserves, entirely overlooking, for instance, one of his most heinous acts as the chief architect of the war -- a cynical recruitment gambit aimed at the underclass known as "Project 100,000."

By 1966, President Johnson was fearful that calling up the reserves or abolishing student deferments would further inflame war protesters and signal all-out war. And so, even after McNamara began privately declaring the war was unwinnable, the defense secretary devised Project 100,000.

Under his direction, an alternative army was systematically recruited from the ranks of those who had previously been rejected for failing to meet the armed services' physical and mental requirements. Recruiters swept through urban ghettos and Southern rural back roads, even taking at least one youth with an IQ of 62. In all, 354,000 men were rolled up by Project 100,000. Touted as a Great Society program that would provide remedial education and an escape from poverty, the recruitment program offered a one-way ticket to Vietnam, where "the Moron Corps," as they were pathetically nicknamed by other soldiers, entered combat in disproportionate numbers. Although Johnson was a vociferous civil rights advocate, the program took a heavy toll on young blacks. A 1970 Defense Department study disclosed that 41 percent of Project 100,000 recruits were black, compared with 12 percent in the armed forces as a whole. What is more, 40 percent of Project 100,000 recruits were trained for combat, compared with 25 percent for the services generally.

66. You did this while she was holding a razor to your neck?
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 03:28 PM by marekjed
Cause just a few days ago I was getting a haircut - from a guy though - and he started yapping about the immorality of gays. I told him to drop the subject or I was gonna leave right there. When he shut up, I gave him a bit of a lecture, calmly.

But I was wondering if it was wise to lecture a hairdresser on morality when he's holding a razor to my neck :)

56. War is...
War is
the answer

Someone obviously cut out the "not" to modify the message. Actually, the truck with this sticker is often in my neighborhood. I frequently make a very upset face in the direction of the truck whenever I see it, hoping my this will cause the sticker to spontaneously fall off. This has yet to happen, sadly.

If war is the answer, I don't want to know the question.

59. On the flip side...
...a friend of mine has bought some stickers from carryabigsticker.com. They have some good ones--my friend has these two:

and

He said being behind a group of SUV drivers one day, every one of whose vehicle sported some form of "W" sticker, was the last straw for him.

I saw one the other day that said, "Bush deserves a fair trial." I'm not sure I get it--does the guy who bought the sticker mean Bush deserves a chance to prove himself (note to sticker-sporter: too late!) or does it mean he should be arrested and tried? If it's the latter, that decal may be too subtle--at least for yours truly. :)

But one of the worst I saw was a tshirt, not a bumpersticker.

The guy selling it likened us to the English in the Revolutionary War, like he was going to have to chase us out of the country. Something about Democrats being socialist, and British being socialist, though I don't think the British were socialist back in 1776. Fractured history all around.

like the college team flags that are attached by alumni as they go to their football games. Since I was also driving but in the opposite direction I couldn't catch what it said, but "Bush" was clearly visible on the top part. Never seen anything like it. Plus of course she had a few Bush bumper stickers; again, couldn't see what they said but they looked like the run of the mill ones.

86. Nuke France.
That has got to be the worst. It is so screwed up because the vast majority of French citizens were against the war. Therefore, their leader said they would not take part. That's good democracy.

The neo-con talking machine started calling Chirac a weak leader. Same with Schroeder where in Germany also a vast majority opposed the war.

In Italy, the majority opposed the war and the right-winger, Berlusconi, decided to join the war. He was called a "strong leader."

These neo-cons hate democracy. And they are taking away our Constitution with the Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act, executive orders, etc. They now even have a bill to remove habeas corpus.

I could swear that I saw this all coming in Star Wars episode 3.

BTW, there's a Vickers that posts on a guitar/music board that I got banned from for making an anti-conservative comment.* You the same guy? I was Derek the Red over there.

*Someone posted about seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 and what a horrible job he thought Bush was doing, then another poster chimed in with "No politics" and posted a link to wingnut Hitchens' review of the movie (completely hypocritical, I know). I can't remember my exact response, but even though I didn't address his comment about Bush being a horrible president (even though I agree that he is) it was enough to get me booted. In the long run it worked out, though, because I like it here better anyway.

Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 07:18 AM by bunkerbuster1
Yes, I've seen some more blatantly disgusting stickers on cars. But that "Still the president" sticker stakes out new ground.

People have been taking cheap shots on various political issues, left and right, for years. But after being around to see LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton, NEVER have I seen this kind of despicable, in-your-face gloating on the side of the (alleged) victors, as this.

Think about it for a moment. Did any Clinton supporters EVER put up bumper stickers rubbing Dole voters' faces in it for having lost in '96? For that matter, did Nixon or Reagan's people do that?

Of course not. There was a time when such behavior was seen as not just rude, but unsportsmanlike.

Not any more.

Yep, to me, those "W. Still the President" stickers win the "most fucked up" prize in a cakewalk.

114. Another one, pre-Election 2004: "Police Officers for Bush"
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 11:14 AM by Rob H.
I hope this guy has felt extra-stupid since this information came to light back in February.

Excerpt:

"According to figures obtained by the AP, Bush would slice a $600 million grant program for local police agencies to $60 million next year. Grants to local firefighters, for which Congress provided $715 million this year, would fall to $500 million."

Edit: Okay, that's not really fucked up so much as it was just stupid, so I guess it's kinda off-topic. Still, I knew last year before the election that Bush had either cut or was going to cut funding that would've kept more police officers on the street, and I'm not even in law enforcement. I saw the decal and just thought, "Damn. Obviously he hasn't been following the news."
