oh no, congress adds 2 more months to DayLight Savings Time

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-daylight20.html

Congress to add 2 months to Daylight Savings Time

-snip-

Congressional leaders of both parties have signed off on a proposal, being considered in Washington this week, to start Daylight Saving Time on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday of November. They say it would save energy

-snip-

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use,'' said U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who co-sponsored the measure with U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.).

-snip-

The Chicago-based National PTA has opposed Daylight Saving Time for more than 30 years because of concerns about kids walking to school in darkness.

-snip-
-------------------

america doesn't like children

what Markey and Upton say doesn't even make sense.

who is behind Markey and Upton and why? it ain't less electrical use.

will smirk sign bill?

1. I think I'll lengthen my dining room rug ...

... by cutting off the excess on one end and sewing it onto the other end where the floor is exposed.

 :dunce:

I say - let's forget this 2 months business. Let's go year-round!!!!

3. I wish we'd get rid of it altogether
One small farming community in my county doesn't have Daylight savings and AZ has the right idea as well

4. these people are f**ckin' insane
And of course smirk will sign the bill as his small coke-stained brain will consider this an integral part of his "Energy Plan".

No need for public transit and no call for using less just hybrids and daylight savings nation.

Keep your kids out of Government schools.

6. Just what Alaska needs -- more daylight!
:sarcasm: None of this makes much difference up here. It's going to be light in the summer and dark in the winter, no matter what time it is.

8. But with more daylight won't more people be out on the road?
That would mean more gas, more oil consumption, more global warming...

11. That's what I was thinking.
When it gets dark, I don't go and run to the store. I like to just hang out at home and get ready for bed. I guess we need to know what is worse - burning gas on car trips or running light bulbs and TV's.

12. I don't think the cost of a light bill would hurt too much.
It's the A/C that kills my house, energy-wise. And that won't change regardless of how many daylight hours they give us.
The only people that'll benefit from this are businesses and the oil companies...

13. Why are the fiddling around with that crap when we are in the
process of becoming a police state with no legitimate elections. Our military is being used to take over the world. We are creating bunker busting nukes that will kill a million people per drop.

15. I love the idea!
There's nothing more depressing than total darkness at 5 p.m. It might not save any money energywise, but it could lower the use of Prozac.

Like there aren't more important things to be doing. What the hell is wrong with Congress?

My clocks never change. Pay no attention to alien commands.

18. All I have to say to this is
:wtf:

This is going to do nothing for energy savings, in fact as somebody earlier pointed out, it will increase energy use, since more people will be inclined to drive while it is light.

But there is always going to be X number of hours of darkness, no matter how you tweak the numbers, you can't stop the Earth from spinning.

More dumb shit our so called leaders are wasting their time on. Meanwhile people are dying, both here and abroad.

But Congress doesn't want to make important choices. They'd rather mess with daylight savings and friggin' video games.

19. are they nuts?
I work in an office all day.

i'd venture to guess at more than half of the population is indoors all day long.

we use electricity regardless of what the weather is doing outside.

that being said - idefinitely prefer more sunlight to less - that going to work in the dark, leaving work in the dark, during wintertime wreaks havoc on my well-being.
