Joe Wilson was handing out false information, it was understandable why Karl Rove HAD to correct it by speaking with reporters, etc. etc. etc.

Some hugs last forever.

Sorry McCain, the Bushies are not endorsing your candidacy. Maverick my ass. I can't believe some liberals still like this guy.

3. My personal view
I think McCain probably has first hand experience at leaking names, maybe he did it while being held as a POW?

Why else would the good Senator constantly refuse to sign a release
for his debriefing?

122. Don't bring that up...
That is not fair. What happens to someone as a POW happens because they are human. We will never know the type of hell it takes to make someone say something and the type of regret they carry if they have. This is not appropriate and it is not the same as committing crimes against humanity, for example by actively engaging in rape of children. This man was but himself a child on the other side of the argument.

Let that be. If he did speak, then let's torture Rove for 5 years and see what he has to say. I doubt anyone, most humans, could withstand torture and we practice it ourselves now as part of everyday law. I really get pissed when POWs are used as pawns, no matter what party they are in.

I cannot and will not ever hold accountable a POW for speaking. I cannot imagine the hell they go through, but others having never gone through hell, will be the first to talk about honor and duty. Let's not get into this argument with them. We have more respect for ethics and dignity.

126. Well, that's definitely too fucking bad.
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 11:23 PM by TankLV
If it was so godamn bad - & I don't deny it was - THEN MAYBE HE SHOULDN'T BE A FUCKING SENATOR OR EVEN THINK OF RUNNING IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Or is that too hard to put 2+2 together and come up with the right answer for ya?

It sure must've given him leave of his brain - because his hypocricy & arrogance is simply astounding.

He is NOT a good man.

His POW experience does NOT excuse his bad actions/beliefs/behavior.

Sorry, but this is the BIG TIME. No chances for OPPS - I didn't mean to press the "button" and nuke the world!

OPPS - I didn't mean to forget to see some horrible tragedy strike - I was a POW don't forget!

Yeah - we know, we know - that's why you're not FIT to even be a SENATOR!

Just responded to the post I did defending her against some smears... she wrote something amazing and I agree with her, but we have to channel your anger above into constructive work. McCain has his own demons. We have fish to fry, go read Randi's amazing fucking post and tell me that does not tell you to get up, and get going, and do something:

134. apologists?
Um okay... sedatives near by? Wow, talk about crazed. I highly doubt, btw, that you have or will ever do what I have done and what I have been through. Your assumptions are pathetic. How dare you assume anything about me? Did I attack you or insult you? I am not defending McCain, I am simply saying that the POW stuff (he talked) should not be the focus. I also do not make it an excuse for him. I am stating simply that it cannot and should not ever be the argument on either side. Just like with Kerry, his record there and then his protests here should have never been the focus. It is unethical, in my view. In any case, you can disagree, but no need to attack me in this way. Your assumptions about other people, based on a forum, are way out of line. But then this is not a contest. We all have our own bullshit. You just should learn to deal with those, especially those on your side, better.

You need not take my suggestion, but you need to apologize for your absolute crazed attack.

42. He did address this, later in the show...
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 08:15 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
He basically said that Joe Wilson was the ONLY one who told the truth and the ONLY one who was "punished." That's when McCain said "I can't be the president...I believe in this president" (see my other post in this thread).

SO...Matthews should have NAILED McCain when he praised Rove for "correcting" Wilson, but he DID leave him speechless for a moment later in the show.

If any of you folks have the opportunity to watch the repeat of this tonight, I highly recommend it.

55. I think he's cut deals with people besides the Bushes for 08
I'm certain he's running. He's got to be smart enough to know that the deal is for Jeb to run. McCain is banking on Bush fatigue and has probably cut deals with fundy organizations to keep them off his back this time, thinking of all the damage they did to him in '00. It's not a bad strategy, if you don't mind selling your country and your soul down the river.

WELL...that certainly cleared THAT up.

...a complete and total opportunist.

but he's beyond that now. He's genuinely WEIRD. His "refreshingly bi-partisan" bits are routinely obliterated a little later by the most obsequious groveling before the powers-that-be imaginable. It's nearly 1 to 1.

We're going around and around in circles with these Republicans. They admit the Niger uranium story was bogus and yet they bring it back at their convenience to discredit Wilson. You mean now Iraq WAS seeking uranium from "Afffrikkhhaaa"?

17. I just saw that.
McCain is SUCH a sell-out. He has lost ALL credibility. At one time, if there were EVER Repubs. I could vote for, McCain would've been one and Powell the other. But now that McCain has sold his soul to have support in '08 and Powell gave that speech to the UN, both are gone to me. But McCain just now even LOOKED like a sell-out. How could he not only excuse Rove for leaking while at the same time repeating the lie that Wilson claimed Cheney sent him to Niger, but he acted like Rove's smear of him and his FAMILY in the primaries was ok, claiming that HIS campaign may have played "hardball," too. What a loser! And so is Matthews for not pressing McCain on the issues! :grr:

101. First Welcome To DU....
We need EVERY single person we can get to make sure THEY know exactly how we feel.

I also agree with your comments on McCain & Powell. I too, once felt these were trustworthy men. No longer!! I started a thread about 2 weeks ago about Powell and was extremely amazed by the information that one DUer submitted!

Did you know that some of his beginnings started with the goings on in Viet Nam? I think I jotted down the site somewhere about all the information on him, but I must say I was totally surprised. Seems Powell has been a gratuitous bastard for a long long time. However, all along passing himself off as something completely different.

I wish I could remember the name of the blogger who gave me all the info. It may have been compassionate warrior, or something pacifist. But it was an eye opener to say the least.

To whomever it was who gave me the info, if you read this, just in Case I can't find the link, could you give it to me again. I'm constantly writing down links and then have to go through a very long list to recover them. Oh, I just remembered, I can do a search!

48. Cheney's involvement, for one.
McCain said that Rove needed to speak with reporters to let them know that Cheney didn't send him on the trip (that was ONE reason). He needed to "correct" information that Wilson presented, and he repeated several times his claim that the British have not retracted their assertions that Saddam was, in fact arranging for the acquisition of yellowcake.

I don;t know if "Hardball" still posts transcripts on MSNBC. If they DO, this will be one that I'll be keeping my eye out for, and I will post it on DU if / when it's available.

It's not that often that Tweety says anything that we can agree with on here..

He said something like "you're a hell of a guy Senator... BUT YOU'RE WRONG ON THE WILSON ISSUE"

...and even though he's been a staunch Bush whore in the past, Matthews...unlike most of the Fox guys 'n' gals or someone like Joe Scarborough...does occasionally reach the breaking point when it comes to GOP bullshit.

Matthews gets slammed frequently on DU...and it's often justified...but tonight, he turned in an admirable day's work.

McCain was pathetic. He was a coward. He may have been a war hero in Viet Nam, but in the United States, 2005, he's nothing but a coward.

Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 09:18 PM by Nothing Without Hope
he once had. He's part of the cartel and is being groomed by the press for the 2008 Presidential election. For example:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1818584
thread title: Framing for the presidency: TV Movie is pure pro-McCain propaganda

Note how often he is admiringly interviewed as a "wise insider" on TV news shows.

He's being framed as Mr. Clean, Mr. Smart, Mr. Military Hero, Mr. Loved-His-Father, all opposite to Bush. He's old, so the cartel can count on him only being in one election and maybe conveniently dying in office so that their VP (Jeb or some other cartel tool) can take over.

He will be very hard to defeat, but we MUST.

95. We just need to shine truth on the frame
Mr Clean is NOT clean - he was one of the Keating 5 (Would the Republicans have given Kerry a pass if he had this on his record - instead of being the strongest opponent in the Senate to sleazy banks.)

Mr. Military Hero - McCain showed courage and honor as a POW, but from some accounts was mediocre at best for most of his service. (In terms of suggesting skills that could be applied to the Presidency, Clark's career beats him by a mile. The story of Kerry's silver star also works that way: From Tour of Duty, it sounds like Kerry spoke to both his experienced enlisted men and peers to get a handle on what happened in previous ambushes that killed others, devised a plan, asked for others' opinions, and Kerry and the other Lt's agreed on circumstances where that unusual reaction and the surprise it would create would be better than doing what they routinely were doing. Amazing inclusive leadership from a 25 year old. Getting input from the most knowledgeable people even if they are not in high places, asking and listening to others opinions, and having a plan all sound good to me - and very un-Bush like.)

Loved his father - commendable, but not unusual. Both Kerry and Edwards appeared to love and honor their parents, but I doubt it got them any credit from the Republicans

We need to prepare, because the media deification ramp-up has already begun. It can't be fought at the last minute - we have to get the truth out to the public at a time and in a way that dispels the fictional glamour that the press is building around him.

picture out there without appearing to be trying to slime McCain. I have been mystified as to why he is percieved as he is - and unfortunately I think it is that he has a great rapport with much of the press. The media deification started even prior to 2000.

If my own limited set of friends is at all typical, there is a very sharp split on McCain's attractiveness by sex - from what I'm seeing most guys like him, while most women don't.

As a Republican with his personal history, he could have taken a moral stand on the various torture issues. He was uniquely placed to do it.

He's a guy who totally supported the rationale for the war. He differed with Bushco on the execution and has been critical of their mistakes from time to time but like them he thought Saddam had to go and was willing to go along with any means necessary to bring him down.

Now he's stuck defending these assholes. If he turns on them he can kiss any chance of getting the GOP nomination goodbye.

I have a feeling, rather like Colin Powell, there's the remains of a decent man deep down somewhere and he hates what he's doing, but, like Powell, his ambition is stronger than his morality.

It'll be interesting to see if he has a breaking point. If McCain turns on them, they're going down.

It wasn't about what he thought. He was like Britney Spears in "Fahrenheit 9/11," telling Tweety how he believes in our president.

This isn't about "believing in our president." It's about one or more people in our "president's" administration leaking the name of a CIA agent. It doesn't require "belief" or a blind sense of wonder, devotion, or awe.

It requires a special prosecutor. We've GOT that.

The CIA agents who testified today were right.....why are none of the Republican reps standing up and calling this Administration on these treasonous acts?.

121. From hero to treason supporter...
You go McCain...and I actually respected this man. Wow. Amazing. They either have threatened to Wellstone his wife and kids or he has been brainwashed at the mother ship.

135. Just what do you think your reward will be, Mr. McCain?
Will it be worth your actions? That is the question for you. The wanting is more pleasurable than the having. When and if you get your reward, then what?

136. McCain is a...
...wolf in sheep's clothing. I trust Tom Delay more than I trust McCain. Tom Delay is an evil liar. McCain is an evil liar pretending to be a good guy. He is despicable.
