List of reporters who testified about Plame leak to grand jury
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 01:40 PM by imenja
Those who testified that they learned of Plame's identity from a WH aid, Rove, Libby, etc..., before the Novak article, or gave testimony otherwise contradicting Rove and Libby's lies.

My count so far: Matt Cooper, Tim Russert, Walter Pinkus . . . who else has been disclosed as testifying, giving damaging information?

Have we had news reports of the content of the testimony of others? I'm looking for info on actual news accounts about testimony rather than just the laundry list of the rumored usual suspects.

2. do we know what Matthews said?
Matthews has lon been rumored to have received a call from Rove (after the Novak article) and then tipped Wilson off. Do we know what he told the grand jury?

4. right, but that was after the Novak article
from what Wilson has said. Testimony of leaks before the Novak article is more damaging.

13. ..."because he's a Democrat."

Sorry I can't link this, but this little blurb was mentioned on Countdown on the 19th. (It might not even apply to what you are asking...but it is a good rebuttal for Democrats who are always accused of making this a "partisan issue"...)

This was in the Los Angeles Times Monday, July 18,2005 (A14) "Time Writer Confirms Scrutiny of Rove"...

..."A 'source' directly familiar with information provided to prosecutors said Rove's interest was so strong that it prompted questions in the White House. When asked at one point why he was pursuing the diplomat so aggressively, Rove reportedly responded: 'He's a Democrat.' Rove then cited Wilson's campaign donations which leaned toward Democrats, the person familiar with the case said."

Take whatever you want out of this quote. But my point is that when Republicans rant about the Democrats trying to make this a partisan issue .....please quote Rove's comment supposedly made to prosecutors......i.e., he (Rove) is pursuing the diplomat so aggressively because he is a democrat! (I guess one can asume that Rove's pursuit and hatred of Democrats included outing Wilson's wife.)

16. I realize that. But Cooper, Pinkus, and Russert have talked about theirs
they aren't forbidden from talking about their own testimony

11. I remember that show
Was watching when Rove said it, remember Chris Matthews' reaction. MY reaction was first that I was stunned Rove would say that, then angry, then wondered if he was correct in his assertion.

Didn't seem right to me then, doesn't now.

Heard an ex-CIA man on NPR yesterday (TOTN). According to him, and he said a group of ex-agents agreed about it in a meeting they had, it is NEVER okay to disclose cover once you've ever been under cover ... EVER. Former operatives go to their graves never having told even their own families what their job really was, what their cover is all about. When Ames revealed agents' identities to the Russians, or Soviets, at least TEN of them were killed.

Rove knows this, surely. I can't imagine why he would assert that Plame was fair game, or act on that premise. Frankly, I'm STILL stunned ... that he keeps right on saying this.

12. it really is shocking
that they so callously dismiss national security for their petty political grudges and that Republicans are not speaking out against it. Even John McCain is apparently justifying Rove's behavior.

17. Agree. McCain in particular has mystified me ever since
he put down his legitimate grudges against W and his attack dogs following his dropping out of the presidential campaign. The stuff those creeps wrote and said about him, his wife, his courage, for heaven's sake! After five-plus years in the Hanoi Hilton where most of his fellow soldier prisoners vouched for his behavior, W&Co challenged McCain's courage.

Maybe McCain's just so accustomed by now to "the way things are inside the Beltway" and particularly in campaigns that he can let even the most vile dirty trick or lie go by the way when the GOP finds it expedient for its loyal members to unite behind one candidate. Still doesn't make much sense to me, but perhaps that's it.

Whatever his reasons, McCain lost my respect when he hugged W and has repeatedly since then spoken out quite clearly and loudly in support of him. I finally began to see why so many of my Vietnam vet pals take strong stands against McCain -- veteran or not, brother or not, former POW or not. Maybe it's about 50/50 among the vets I happen to know -- and since many of them are online, that's several hundred individual veterans that I know by name, rank, AO and dates of service incountry, and opinions!

The ones who do NOT respect McCain and who repeatedly offer good reasons for their stand tell me he "was a rich kid whose admiral daddy covered his ass just like W's pappy did his." They seem to think McCain is no more to be relied upon to be honest, to have genuine integrity, than we expect such traits from W.

And my vet buddies who approve of McCain yet do not try to say he is a shining role model as a politician. Many of those who may vote for him nonetheless think he has done far less than he should have for the POW/MIAs and their families, for instance.

I wonder how ANY of the "decent" Republicans can hold their heads up in the face of what the Bush White House has been doing ever since W moved into it. Talk about a need for SPINE.....

19. not really hard to understand-Rove acts in his own and BushCo's
interests and does what he has to do keep Bush and the neocons in power. No consciousness, no etiical concerns. Just do it.

Yes he did, likely because he was given the classified memo that's a hot topic today.

18. plus I think some folks at dkos found Gannon was at the WH
on a Sunday when this story broke--on a day that there were no press briefings. Speculation had been that this is when he may have seen the memo and may have been used to "launder" the story

21. Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post
Supposedly he got a call from the WH about Plame after Novak's article was published. I don't know if he wrote about it or not.

I keep a running list of who has testified. I have 8 reporters. Four got the info on Plame before Novak's article was published: Judith Miller, Matt Cooper, Walter Pincus, and Robert Novak. Three got the info after Novak's article: Chris Matthews, Glenn Kessler and Andrea Mitchell. Tim Russert also got the info, but I don't know when for certain.

Here are others who have testified:

Ari Fleischer
Karl Rove
Scott McClellan
Adam Levine - former Bush press aide
Alberto Gonzalez
Colin Powell
Condoleeza Rice
Scooter Libby
Mary Matalin
Catherine Martin - Cheney press aide
Dan Bartlett - WH Communications Director
Clare Buchan - deputy press secretary
Karen Hughes

And of course, Bush and Cheney were interviewed, but not under oath.

Others who I hope have testified, although I haven't seen their names in print:

Stephen Hadley
George Tenet
Joseph Wilson
Andy Card
Nicholas Calio
Marc Grossman
Richard Armitage
Carl Ford
John Bolton

Looks like Fleisher is a possibility for indictment too since it appears he lied to the Grand Jury about not having seen the secret State Dept memo on Wilson

23. Didn't Novakula testify too. He's just a columnist though. That brings up
a question, are columnists subject to the same protections as reporters. I wouldn't think so. Besides, I think Novak already sqealed like a pig, he got scared when he had that fall in the shower awhile back. Maybe someone removed the little non-slip flowers from the bathtub.
