How would the Election been affected if Treasongate had broken in Jan 04?
It seems like * would have been doomed to defeat for sure if it had come out in January 2004 that his "brain" was a traitor who had endanged our national security.

Bush's credibility (?!) would have taken a severe hit if his chief advisior was known to be a traitor and if he and his press secretary had been caught in a series of bold-faced lies.

He did however, survive the 911 Commission Report, Abu Ghraib, no WMD, over 1,000 combat deaths, and much much more. Possibly his "base" is so deluded that they could have literally overlooked ANYTHING. But I do wonder...

WHY DO BUSH SUPPORTERS DENY THE OBVIOUS?
http://www.awakeninthedream.com/bushsupporters.html

excerpt:

To quote Stanley Hilton, Bob Dole’s former chief of staff and a long-time Republican, “George Bush makes Benedict Arnold look like a patriot. He makes Benedict Arnold look like George Washington. I mean that’s what we have- a criminal and traitor sitting in the White House pretending he is a patriot, wrapping himself in the flag.” The evidence of Bush and Company’s corruptness and duplicity is beyond overwhelming, and it is literally everywhere, staring us in the face. Why are so many people looking away and not noticing? I find myself no longer interested in trying to convince anyone of what a madman, criminal and traitor Bush is, though it’s not for lack of trying. What I find more fruitful is to contemplate why people who are supporting Bush are both unwilling and seemingly unable to see the evil that is playing out through him. People who follow Bush are in denial about something that to the overwhelming majority of the world could not be more obvious.

The denial of people who support Bush is a form of blindness. People who support Bush are refusing to look at what is right in front of their eyes, an evil that they themselves are complicit in and participating in by their denial. People who are following Bush are acting out of their unconscious. It is as if they have fallen asleep and are dreaming, entranced by their own projections. It is as if they are bewitched, having fallen under a spell. They are living in what John Kerry calls “a fantasy world of spin,” ignoring and oblivious to any facts that contradict their worldview. It is exactly like they are hypnotized, like they are brainwashed. People who follow Bush are behaving exactly like members of a cult who have blindly and unquestioningly given away their power to their leader. They have left behind their critical thinking, dis-connecting from their capacity to discern truth from fiction. Not to mention selling their soul in the bargain. People who support Bush are suffering from a collective psychosis. Why else would they be supporting a madman for President? It is shattering to look in the mirror and see that we, as a people, have gone temporarily mad.

There is a psychic epidemic manifesting in our country right now, and millions of people in our populace have fallen prey to it. There is no sense pretending otherwise. It is of the most profound importance that we notice and understand the psychological nature of the collective malady that we, as a people, are suffering from. Understanding the psychological nature of our illness gives us insight into how to treat it.

By looking away from what Bush is doing and naively supporting him, people are complicit in and feeding Bush’s malignant psychosis. There is something about the depth of depravity, though, that is enacting itself through the Axis of Evil represented by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rice, Rove and others that is so dark that it induces in some of us a tendency to pretend that it isn’t really happening. The malevolent energy that is playing itself out through Bush is very hard to look at. People look away, as it is too horrific. The intensity of the evil provokes people to rationalize it, to justify it, to explain it away. It triggers a tendency in people to fall asleep. We like to imagine that people couldn’t be THAT corrupt, THAT two-faced, THAT evil. It is truly shocking to see the depth of depravity a human being can fall into. It is doubly shocking when we realize that these criminally insane individuals control the most powerful nation on earth.

1. The rub is that many in the DC media KNEW Rove was lying when the story
first broke because they received the leaks themselves or knew the story from other reporters.

They would NEVER portray Rove as the lying scumbag he is out of their own fears and cronyism.

The public never heard the truth about the 9-11 report because the BROADCAST MEDIA refused to discuss the matters concerning Bush's failures and incompetence.

Their job was to keep him propped up, so all you heard last year was that "Bush can't be beat on the terror issue" but, there was no explanation ever given why that would be true while hiding all the reasons why it definitely was NOT True.

3. Horrible Realization - the Press reporting on the Election KNEW Rove was
the traitor. They knew it all the time they were "reporting" on Bush and Kerry and the Election.

They reported favorably on Bush, even though they knew he was harboring and protecting a traitor. They COULD have blown Treasongate wide open in January 2004. They were professionally obligated, as journalists, to report what they knew when it would have mattered so much to so many people.

My post was just a hypothetical "what if"...I never considered that the Press, along with Bush, knew all along and kept it a secret. OK, now I am happy Judith Miller is in jail. I wish they would send Novak, Cooper and all the rest of them that did not report on the identity of the TRAITOR when it could have made a difference to jail too.

5. Worse, the press allowed RNC claim that Wilson was just a Kerry operative
without holding them to account for that lie.

7. Access is all
Most of the press would rather keep their contacts and get to rub shoulders with the famous, no matter how notorious, than tell the truth.

4. I remember meeting Joe Wilson in Madison in January 2004 at Kerry HQ
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 10:20 PM by zulchzulu
The story was well out...Joe Wilson was helping out as a grassroots supporter with the rest of us longhairs and n'er de wells.

He had mentioned that the book would be out soon...he talked about Rove and treason...down to earth guy that was deeply appreciative of our conviction to run hard against the Chimp.

Again, the story was out. It's just that the MSM refused to do their job. AGAIN! Kerry, Dean and others had used the issue in stump speeches and on deaf ears to the MSM.

8. The Story was NOT out - everyone suspected "Scooter" Libby
What we knew in 2004:

The story of Plame's betrayal was out.

It was known that it was done by "someone" in the Bush administration.

It was known that it was done to smear Wilson for his LTE on "What I Didn't Find In Niger".

Cheney was suspected. Everyone was fairly sure it was "Scooter" Libby.

Nobody, AFAIK, not even alternative sources, named Rove as the traitor.

6. People would sooner call evil good...
...Than admit that they have unknowingly supported evil.

Maybe enough will admit it to themselves in time for the nation to be saved, but there is no guarantee.

9. You mean, like the New York Times protected "Wired Bush"?
They killed the story right before the presidential "elections":

10. They flat out work for the GOP as political operatives,
while trying to do the dance of appearing as "reporters". They wanted Bush elected at any cost to democracy, this bias has been obvious for years. The only time they report anything is if it will endanger their cover not to.
