Why did no Democrat show up today at Karen Hughes' hearing?
Was it that much more important to get out of town on Friday than to question one of the architects of Bush's Iraq policy as she is to be confirmed as the State Department's top PR hack?

Geez.

1. Because neither she nor her post are important to them.
That's my guess.

3. Karen Hughes as top PR person. Figures
Hughes as PR person is like putting a bull elephant in charge of a china shop.

Of course, the hearing was planned for Friday, but still no excuses for not having Democrats involved.

5. Ever hear the phrase "third tit"?
because that is what our "elected representatives" have become.

Sorry, but its the truth.

8. no need to apologize . . . you're absolutely right . . .
the way I heard it, though, was "useless as tits on a bull" . . . either way, it aptly describes our "representatives," of both parties . . . with a few (VERY few!) notable exceptions . . .

6. Why is there a hearing on Karen?
A PR person doesn't need approval, do they?

7. Senator Lugar planned it that way. He didn't want democrats
around asking questions and holding things up. Hughes was going to be confirmed anyway. It would have been a waste of time to argue against her. She actually isn't worth the time or effort it would have taken.

9. I watched the end part of her...uhh..quasi interview thing.
It was so lame, you just can't imagine. Her suit was inappropriate, she needed a mojito to match the turquoise colors. Her answers to Voinovitch were absolutely canned. Anyone who bought that schtick is a bushbot. So...do I like Karen? No. She is just too sad for words. Someone needs to lock that woman up. Please.

Willy and Chris...that could be a song. :)

14. Not a fight worth fighting.
One can fight just the fights one can win, or one can fight the fights one should fight.

But fighting everything that presents itself as a possible fight is a waste of time.

16. Biden wimped in with a gushing letter of SUPPORT!
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 11:07 AM by Pithy Cherub
snip -:puke::puke::puke: still :puke:ing on edit...
Biden submitted in lieu of a personal appearance:

"I am particularly interested in and supportive of the nomination of Karen Hughes to be undersecretary of state for public diplomacy ... I believe that she is highly qualified because of her professional background, and, importantly, enjoys the full confidence of the president and the secretary of state.

She will bring new energy and creativity to our public diplomacy efforts. I commend the president for choosing her and persuading her to return to Washington, and I look forward to working with her for the next three years on this important foreign policy priority.”
