Roberts can't recall if he was a member of the Federalist Society
Too funny and way too lame. I heard Rush's fill in on Friday laughing at reports about Roberts being a member of the Federalist Society "Ha ha ha He ISN'T a member...(insert several minutes of self discussion of the liberal medi)"

Now this.

Roberts silent on Federalist Society
White House: He has no recollection of membership in conservative group

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8701009/

WASHINGTON - Supreme Court nominee John Roberts declined Monday to say why he was listed in a leadership directory of the Federalist Society and the White House said he has no recollection of belonging to the conservative group.

Listed as member of steering committee
The Washington Post reported Monday that it had obtained from a liberal group a 1997-98 Federalist Society leadership directory listing Roberts, then a partner in a private law firm, as being a steering committee member in the group’s Washington chapter.

Roberts has acknowledged participating in Federal Society events and giving speeches for the organization.

But on Monday, presidential press secretary Scott McClellan said, “He doesn’t recall ever paying dues or being a member.”

3. "I'll have to get back to you on that"
-Alberto Gonzales at his confirmation hearing.

He never did.

This is amazing that they are going to simply run out the clock with "can't recall".

2. I had fun with this on my blog today!
Maybe it's early-onset Alzheimer's.

Whatever has caused this memory lapse (1997-1998) should be cause for alarm!

4. It has been a part of his "resume" since his Appellate appointment!
The "Independent Judiciary" site (of the Alliance for Justice) has listed his 'resume' as follows for years:
Other Information. Mr. Roberts is a member of two prominent, right-wing legal groups that promote a pro-corporate, anti-regulatory agenda: the Federalist Society and the National Legal Center For The Public Interest, serving on the latter group's Legal Advisory Council.

Since this has been in "the book" on Roberts for over 3 years, it's beyond sane to think "he didn't remember" or know!

6. I dont' understand the big deal about the federalist society
He would not be the first from the society. I am not disturbed at all by allegations that he is a member, i'm disturbed by his denial or lack of memory.

I think it is a stretch to call his membership evidence of extremism. Not like the society is a cult.

When I was in law school it seemed about half of the all the conservative students (so about 2.5) were federalists.

Again, it bothers me more that he would hide it. What else is he hiding...

just come out with it.

He's making both himself and the Federalists look even worse than they already do.

11. Federalists want to curtail big government by transfering power to the...
Executive branch. They believe the Government has gotten way out of control and the only way to curb it's growth is to transfer some powers to the President that are normally reserved for Legislative and Judicial Branch. This philosophy is why they get nominated by Presidents, especially Republicans though not exclusively. They have a rather large organization and I hear even a few charter schools for advanced studies in law. I've read a few of thier white papers, it's definitely right-wing though I don't believe that's a necessary criteria for joining. Boil it down to thier a bunch of right-wing wack-jobs and you wouldn't be too far from the mark.

Like seriously, is he on drugs???

I agree with an above poster, being a federalist doesn't disqualify him, but not remembering if he's a federalist does.

17. His "poor memory" alone should then disqualify him,
unless of course he's lying, in which case that should disqualify him.

Just when you think they couldn't get more lame with their dodges -

The second rule of Federalist Society is, you DO NOT talk about
Federalist Society.

That's OK, John. I have no recollection of my junior year of college even though I'm pictured in the yearbook.
