Christian Exodus not welcome here
After reading your lead story of July 12, I find it curious that a newspaper that considers itself mainstream would give exposure and implied legitimacy to a small group of religious wackos who want to gather up a whole bunch of similarly inclined neo-puritans from all over the country, and move here with the intentions of transforming South Carolina into a fundamentalist theocracy. And, on top of that, this so-called "Christian Exodus" group even considers treason (secession) an option to further these goals. Do we really want these people here trying to deprive the rest of us of our freedom?
Whatever happened to the days when the religious extreme-ists built walled compounds in isolated locations and did their thing without interfering with everyone else's lives? (At least until or unless the authorities learned they were abusing their children.)
Since these people don't appreciate the freedoms guaranteed in our Bill of Rights, they should consider leaving the United States entirely. Maybe they could settle in Afghanistan, where the populace is already used to the Taliban and wouldn't really notice the difference. Or perhaps Guyana, in South America. I understand that there's a vacant place that used to be called Jonestown, which might suit their needs.
Jesus, please protect the rest of us from your followers. Greenville

We'll not abide a theocratic takeover
To the members of Christian Exodus: (Greenville News article, July 12) You will be given a warm welcome in your new neighborhoods in South Carolina, and in our churches, and in our schools, our businesses, even our polling places, but you will also quickly learn that South Carolinians don't take kindly to strangers coming in and telling us what to do.
Yes, we are conservative, but we are also well-settled politically, very patriotic and hardly ripe for some theocratic takeover. You (all three of you) will do better to work for change and, if necessary, secession in Pennsylvania or California, or wherever else you come from, and leave us alone... Taylors, SC
