Repub advisor starts smear on Dem Iraq War Vet Candidate's service
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 11:22 AM by Rose Siding
I can't BELIEVE this!! A hack Schmidt advisor is running a rovian attack on Hackett's military creds! The guy answers in comments and gets well ripped by editors et al (via atrios) :grr:

http://blog.oh02.com/2005/07/25/a-slap-in-the-face-schmidt-advisor-questions-hacketts-service/

In part...

On her recent appearance on the Speaking Frankly radio show Jean Schmidt stated that Eric Minamyer was advising her campaign. Given Mr. Minamyer’s recent habit of indirectly questioning Paul Hackett’s service in Iraq this site must ask the question does Eric Minamyer speak for the Schmidt campaign?

(minamer writes...)
I understand that Hackett did not participate in combat at all. It is still dangerous over there as I can personally attest. Let’s just not act as though we led marines in combat if we did not, okay…

I have asked the question time and again, what role did he actually play?

Given all the opportunities he has had to say “I served in combat” one fair conclusion is that he did not.

1. Hackett
will have ribbons. He can join VFW. Can she?

Better to have entered the arena and tried then to never have entered the arena at all. (Stealing from Teddy Roosevelt)

BUT having said that.

As a war veteran and doer of daring do and former active (But failed) politician I can tell you that military service means absolutely nothing to most people.

Being Military Vet and five bucks will buy you a beer.

2. But when one party is SO EXTREMELY PATRIOTIC and yet so
under-represented in the actual war they SUPPORT SO PATRIOTICALLY, it is a very sad day when they call into question one who does actually sign up and serve in the war THEY WANTED . . .

5. Nevertheless
what I say is true. I am a compensated disabled vet and I have learned to keep that to myself-even from fellow veterans.

It is a mystery to me.

4. Young Repukes are going to have some serious
problems in the near future - when people start asking them, "Hey, if you supported the War on Terror, where did you serve?"

and the crickets start chirping . . . and their credibility for the run for public office wanes . . .

7. I'm really not a violent person, BUT this marine should go bust
them in their goddamn yellow mouths. Period.
