about cloture and the DOD bill and some gun bill. There appeared to be some sort of tilting going on with Frist serving as the windmill. Anyone catch the full exchange.

1. all I could gather was that Frist demanded a cloture vote,

Schumer advised his colleagues to vote negative and Kennedy asked if this would put off indefinitely debate on another topic. Sorry I didn't get it all. There was definitely tension on the floor.

2. Looks like they are voting on special protection for gun manufacturers

against the misuse of their products by others. Don't think the gun makers should bear any responsibility for their marketing and sales methods just in case somebody gets a wild hair to sue them. It must be "Payback to Lobbyists Tuesday" in DC. Not to be confused with Payback to Lobbyists Monday, Wednesday, Thurs....

Any qualified civil liability action that is pending on the date of the bills's enactment would be dismissed. It is a vote to limit debate on the motion to proceed to the Gun Liability Bill. Appears that Christmas is coming early for the NRA.

3. Caught some of it earlier......

and Harry Reid was blasting Frist for wanting to table a bill that was for the Benefit of the troops and their families, so he could work on a Gun Lobby Bill. Turned it back on a little later and saw Boxer blasting Frist, trying to catch up on what is going on now.

4. I heard Senator Harry Reid earlier

There were a lot of amendments from Democrats to the Defense appropriations bill, which would have provided some very basic things like adequate care for disabled vets. Like letting families of soldiers killed in action to stay in military housing for a year.

Equal pay for National Guard called up and in action.

Reid said that Frist was told by the WH to stop the debate, which in this case meant not allowing those amendments to come up for a vote even.

In any other administration, it would be totally surprising and preposterous.

According to Harry Reid, normally there are lots and lots of amendments and a lot of time is given to debate and votes on the amendments.

But no, Frist wants to move on to legislation that pleases the NRA.

So they were going to try to invoke cloture on the Defense bill, without allowing the amendments to come to the floor.

5. CSPAN just said the cloture vote failed, but

they did move on to the NRA bill instead of the Defense Bill.

9. NRA yanked Frist's chain as bill was not scheduled for today.

Cloture vote for this gift to the NRA passed with 66 yes votes.
