Republicans trying Swift Boat tactics in Ohio special election
Democrat Paul Hackett, an Army major and veteran of the war in Iraq, is running for an open congressional seat in Ohio's 2nd District. His Republican opponent is Jean Schmidt.

An adviser to Schmidt, Eric Minamyer, went on a radio program and trashed Hackett's military credentials:

I understand that Hackett did not participate in combat at all. It is still dangerous over there as I can personally attest. Let’s just not act as though we led marines in combat if we did not, okay…

I have asked the question time and again, what role did he actually play?

Given all the opportunities he has had to say “I served in combat” one fair conclusion is that he did not.

The election is a week from today. Hackett has the momentum to win in a conservative district and has been endorsed by the Cincinnati Post (which endorsed Bush last year).

If you have a few bucks, you might want to contribute to Hackett's campaign and show the smear merchants in the GOP that their lies have backfired.

1. I don't think this tactic will work...
Attacking an Iraqi soldier is not very patriotic. I don't care who you are... this will not go over well.

3. Donated...
I'll be eating PB&J for the rest of the week, but someday when I get to visit Ohio, I'll seek out Congressman Hackett and congratulate him on his victory.

8. Schmidt hasn't even been in the district very much
While Hackett has been wearing out shoe leather for the last four months. Meeting and greeting.

Not going to work especially since he has the endorsement of a major Cincinnati conservative newspaper who ran a glowing review of Hackett's service.
