The DLC....Like moths to the me-too flame
The DLC is about as useless as a Reference Guide to the Geneva Conventions at a Rumsfeld/Cheney torture policy luncheon. I guess it boils down to this...stick with the DLC until they thoroughly master becoming bona fide Republicans or switch to the Republican Party now so you`ll get a jump start. Yeeehaaa! It`s the getalong gang working shoulder to shoulder with Republican colleagues to defeat the enemy, the slovenly liberal base.

No need for a bunch of probing questions about displaced workers or unarmored Humvees. No need to whine about melting ice shelves or homeless children. And please...all this peace talk? It aids the enemy. Just hoist the flag, obey orders and you`re in. That`s the goal, to be in. I mean, how much corporate cash are you going to get if you`re loitering on the outside with Veterans for Peace? The DLC, not to be outdone, launches a proclamation to match George Bush and raise him one in the national security department. Something new. A Rambo contest.

A unified chorus of "Me too" emanating from the DLC will do absolutely nothing to change the dangerous course George Bush has carved out for this nation. What we need now more than ever are courageous leaders who care less about image and more about substance. The DLC needs a wake-up call. If they won`t respond, we should render them useless.

1. IMO - the DLC is NOT progressive
and supporters of the DLC do not belong here.

7. Depends on the issue...
although in my mind I don't decipher between "liberal" and "progressive."

Do you consider yourself progressive?

9. yes, I do
and it seems to me that DLCers generally consider themselves centrist moving to the right - at best.

10. Not really. I'd say I'm centrist-left.
I can't do a poll but I'd be interested in seeing where DLC supporters truly lay politically.

13. i've been seeing these posts like:
"centrists check in!"

and such.

It sounds to me like people who are trying to push the site to the right.

14. I'm sorry but this is DEMOCRATIC Underground
Not LIBERAL Underground or LEFTIST Underground. We're all on here to discuss the Democratic Party. And members of that party come in different stripes.

15. From the rules:
Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office.

20. Okay
This anti-DLC bullshit is getting old and I can see your point but I have to disagree w/ being "pro-gay" as being a bad thing. I think everybody deserves to be treated like a human being. I'm not flaming, I'm just disagreeing on that point. I disagree w/ a lot of other things but I'm not "liberally pure" and am not inclined to attack everyone who is not "liberally pure"

4. The DNC produced the only 2 term Dem President since FDR.
I'm seriously getting tired of the DLC bashing that goes on here. I thought the Democratic party was the party of the big tent?

The DLC knows how to win and actually accomplish something for the good of the American people. What has Howard Dean and his DNC done for our cause lately?

Nothing.

16. It is the party of the big tent, true.
But the DLC needs to stop taking away so many folding chairs and reserving the ones remaining for big biz.

And, not for nothing, but didn't we lose the legislative majority for the first time since FDR as well? I absolutely stand corrected if that is not accurate.

12. Yes you do
They're not Satan, for heaven's sake. They just seem to me like an easy scapegoat right now. Rather than asking what we can do, we're pointing fingers instead.

I'm a Kerry supporter. I have a right to be here as well. Couldn't have proved it by the responses I got right after the election, mind you...

8. The "me too-dont attack Bush" strategy cost Max Cleland his seat.
Meanwhile, the repubs smeared him but bad.

I saw it happen 1st hand- I agree- the "me too" strategy wins over no one.
