2. I read the opposition is resorting to SwiftBoat type campaigning
and accusing him of not REALLY seeing combat, sorry I don't remember where.

16. He was a public affairs officer

so he probably didn't see combat. Thing is, he never claimed to be a combat Marine.

Last year, Paul heard the call to service again. As his Marine Corps brothers fought a half world away, Paul could not sit in the comfort of his home and let others do the work he was prepared to do. After a serious discussion with his wife and children, Paul re-upped and joined his marines for a seven month tour with the 1st Marine Division and served as a Civil Affairs officer in Ramadi, took part in the Fallujah campaign and subsequent reconstruction.

5. To be fair.

There really was an attempt at a Swift Boats JR. campaign. It's all detailed right here:

http://blog.oh02.com/2005/07/25/a-slap-in-the-face-schmidt-advisor-questions-hacketts-service/

Read the comments. The man that tried to do this (Eric Minamayer) even comments in the blog, still challenging Hackett's service.

Here is where it gets joyfully funny. His attempt backfired, and his little attempt to smear this guy resulted in more free publicity than Hackett ever could have been able to afford.

And yesterday the donations started flowing in. :)

Sometimes the good guys win.

7. YAY!!! What a hoot!!! Yes, GOOD GUYS DO WIN, sometimes...'bout time, too!
As to my post...I misfired I think. Thing is, I read all these negative posts yesterday and so got a head of steam built up. I don't think anybody here meant what I "heard"...so I was just out of order. Then, I clicked on the wrong post to reply. I think I better lay off posting for a day or two -- up my meds -- something!

9. NY Times today: "Veteran of Iraq, Running in Ohio, is Harsh on Bush"
I heard on Big Eddie's show a little while ago that there's a great article in today's NYT about the Hackett/Schmitt Congress race. Article headline: .."Veteran of Iraq, Running in Ohio, is Harsh on Bush"

Hackett calls Bush a "Chickenhawk" (and then some) in the article..

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/27/national/27ohio.html?

Reminder - if you don't feel like registering, "BugMeNot" is a good way to bypass all the registration rigamaroll.. http://www.bugmenot.com/ (you just type in http://www.nytimes.com into "bug me not" and they'll give you bypass info)

:bounce: ~~~~ Go HACKETT!!!! ~~~~ :bounce:

12. Good for him. He managed to get the Cincinnati Post to endorse him
They endorsed Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Hackett, in our view, is a gust of fresh air. If we had to put a label on him, it would be Libertarian Democrat. He says what he thinks and doesn't seem to have much use for the orthodoxy, or the partisanship, of either party. He doesn't want the government telling him what kinds of guns he can own, nor does he want it interfering in family or medical decisions or taking away civil liberties in the name of fighting terror. He regards Social Security more as an insurance program than a retirement savings plan, but wants to put it on a sound footing and would raise the earnings ceiling if necessary to do so.

If elected, he notes, he would be the only member of Congress with direct military experience in Iraq - which, he says, is a fight we should end as soon as possible. He wants to finish the job and get out, and he wants the United States to stop holding hands with Pakistan and to get serious about tracking down those responsible for the 9-11 attacks.

We like Hackett's candor. We're impressed with the freshness of his ideas. We believe his experience shows him to be someone who is action-oriented.

We endorse Hackett for the 2nd District seat.
