McCain Revives Straight Talk America PAC

WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. John McCain, often mentioned as a possible GOP presidential candidate in 2008, has reactivated his political action committee, known as Straight Talk America.

``He's inundated with invitations and requests from candidates at all levels of the ballot as well as state and local party committees,'' a McCain political adviser, John Weaver, said Wednesday.

The committee will help pay for McCain's travel when he gives speeches and allow him to contribute to candidates and party committees.

Weaver said McCain's committee was reactivated in mid-July.

McCain, who ran for president in 2000, fares well in early presidential polling among Republican voters. He dismisses questions about 2008, saying he will wait until after the 2006 election to decide about his political future.

I can't wait to watch McCain lose again.

4. Think he will lose?

I saw at least two recent polls that clearly showed McCain trouncing all other Repubs and any Dem (including HRC who had the strongest showing among Dems). It may be too soon to rely on polls but I found them rather tellingly prophetic.

All Dem presidential candidates worth their salt need to shine a very large, very bright spotlight on McCain's "straight talk" which is more like Straight Poop.

5. I think he will split the republican party

The religious conservative wing doesn't like McCain and I'm not sure big business is crazy about him either.

8. That may be, however...

IMO it matters little how the Religious Right or Big Business or Joe and Jane Republican feel about McCain right now. Obviously, Junior is their man in the WH, God's in his heaven and all's right in their narrow-minded little world. However, when 2008 election day arrives and McCain is the Repub candidate versus any Dem (name any one of 'em), they will vote McCain. You can take that to the bank.

That's assuming, of course, they don't steal the election as a matter of course.... in which case, we're screwed anyway.

6. I can't see Republicans pulling the lever for McCain.

The Republican establishment passed on McCain in favor of then Governor Bush. Governor Bush! If Republicans felt that then Governor Bush was a wiser gamble than McCain, we must conclude that Republicans don't like McCain at all.

7. McCain is no straight talker

He is nothing but a Rethug right down the line. After the smearing he took from Bush in the 2000 primaries, then to see him campaigning with the appointed one, mouthing the party line. I see him on more talk or interview programs, seemingly talking straight, but really just mouthing the party line. For every instance he says something you don't expect from an R, there are 100 where he's nothing more than a RW thug. Dems pay far too much attention to this tool. HE IS NOT A FRIEND IN ANY WAY.
