1. why purge?
Encourage them to dump the "parallel power structure" and participate within the DNC.

2. None of the above. If DMC candidates get elected in 2006, the DLC will
whither away. Their only argument right now is that they feel they got Clinton elected twice. I guess they're disregarding that fact that Kerry was a member huh?

I think if they fail next year, they're done. (if they aren't already!)

Seriously, they only are known on this website and inside the beltway. They can do whatever they wish, but it isn't going to change reality.

Then tell all the centrists to FK off and join the radical right.

13. There's a difference between "moderate" and "corporatist"...
...I used to live in Indiana and I never once heard a hoosier say they thought shipping American jobs to Mexico and China was a good idea.

Evan Bayh is not a moderate...he's a corporate extremist.

Fuck the DLC!

Yeah.

Geez people, I don't agree with them either, but I'm not spending my days coming up with thread after thread beating my tits about them either.

who tell us to blast fellow Democrats and to avoid blasting Bush.

The From ideology will die by itself as it is wrong. We must avoid that it brings the party down with it.

I have stopped using labels a long time ago, so I do not really care about the DLC by itself.

and vote Green while living in a swing state. And if the GOP wins again and dominates the Supreme Court until 2050, I'm gonna be the loudest one whining about it, and about how those eeeeevil moderate corporate sellout DLC senators let those nominees onto the court.

That's what I'm gonna do. *STOMPs foot!*

How DARE Clinton associate with Bush Sr? shriek shriek shriek

Oh, screw it, let someone like Nader win, then barge into the Oval Office farting some "take no prisoners" nonsense. Then, when he becomes the first POTUS to be roundly ignored by the rest of government, I'm sure the Progs will...

...find a way to blame it on the Clintons.

16. Because it's much easier to sit around and complain about liberal
Dems, than actually fight for voting rights. That's what the DLC does-they're little more than a Republican enabling sewing circle.

18. damn, you missed my choice ...
my answer was going to be that i will never again do any of the things i've always done in the past to help them ... you know, campaign work, money, votes - stuff like that ... well, i'll try to do more to help you with your DLC purge but at least that will get me off to a good start ...

of course, working for and funding non-DLC candidates will be an important step too ...

oh yeah, and of course voting for progressives from other parties when no progressive Democrat is on the ballot ...

i'm feeling good about your "Purge the DLC" campaign ... thanks for raising the issue ...

21. The DLC is not the Democratic Party
They are a bunch of elitist Beltway morons that have no clue, or could care less, how the policies they support have hurt working men and women across this country. Whether it is the Iraq war, or NAFTA, or CAFTA, or PATRIOT, the DLC has been dead wrong. The only thing we can count on the DLC to do is for them to continue to enable the war criminal in the White House.

28. Working tirelessly for permanent GOP dominance?
You want to destroy the Democratic party and any vestige of progressive politics entirely? Purges are carried out by those with power, by the majority that has so much power they can afford to prune their ranks. Of course if your goal is perpetual GOP dominance, then this is the way to go. There is no other conceivable result to this kind of tactic.

If your point is to change the platform and content of the party, then you take action to make that happen: Support candidates who promote the kind of ideas you like. New candidates need to come forward that articulate a message of social justice. And tackle the key issue of corporate control of government. We work on filling the vacuum of political ideas with a real agenda. But purges are ridiculously destructive to a minority party and yet another example of the poverty of ideas afflicting Democrats.

You fight them in the political sphere by trivializing their importance. Don't use the term, "DLC", without the obligatory "minority faction" descriptor.

Other than that, write letters to their members asking them to rejoin the Democratic Party. (We do need them--we can't afford a party split.) Appeal to them with arguments like, we agree on many issues, why not make that the basis of comity instead of focussing on those few issues where we disagree.

But treat the DLC itself with disdain, always trivializing them, always framing them as poor sports who can't stand a diversity of opinion in the party. It's all true anyway.
