I don't know, I just don't find Hillary Clinton inspiring as a candidate

for President. She seems to be getting so much attention mostly because she's Bill Clinton's wife and she's an OK senator from NY. Other than those two things, I am hard pressed to come up with something that grabs my attention about her. She's not a very good speaker, I don't like her close relationship to the DLC (which I find too corporate and conservative), and she seems to be too willing to compromise her positions on the issues to gather more moderate and right-wing support than I am comfortable with. I don't know, maybe she'd be OK as President. I do know she is extremely intelligent, which would be a nice change from Chimpy.

4. Who really cares at this point?

If we don't take back Congress in 2006, I'm not sure what person would want to run in 2008. For what purpose? A doormat for the Republican Party? You just know they'll be looking to make up for lost time in investigating Presidents.

6. There is too much irrational hate for her

among the Republicans. I don't think she has a chance in hades of winning. She'll get no votes from the Pubs who are disenchanted with their party right now.

7. I Respect Rather Than Like Her

But our last candidate was very respectable and not very likeable.

Please, don't rush to defend John Kerry. Once you were close to him, in a small crowd, he really was very warm and inspiring. But he can't reach people through a television camera, which is how modern campaigns are run.

Like John Kerry, I think Hillary has lots of qualities you'd want in a President. Sure, I wish she weren't so close to the corporate wing of the party, the DLC trying to move us to the right rather than standing for our core principles, but, she's smart, she's tough,s he can be funny and I think she really does care about people. But, she's not inspiring - at least she doesn't inspire devotion.

It'd be cool to have a female president, but I'm not sure she's the one.

8. If voters want a woman to run....

Blanche Lincoln would be the smarter choice. She can actually be a convincing, appealing candidate to the "mushy middle."

I know that many progressives would be uncomfortable that Blanche is a member of the DLC and her voting record is more centrist than most people here prefer...but I think a Lincoln/Feingold ticket could go a long way toward TRULY uniting Middle America and progressives in a presidential election.

The media knows that Hillary Clinton's name alone breeds controversy, and that's why the MSM wants her as the Dem nominee.

Whether Hillary wins or loses the White House, it will allow them to bring their standards of irresponsible, tabloid-style journalism to new lows.

9. Hillary made one great speech about the right wing

Other than that she just takes RW attacks with little response. I'm hoping we'll have a candidate who goes after the RW directly and aggressively. If Hillary starts doing that, I'll warm up to her again.

The latest speech at the DLC made me suspect that instead of confronting the RW, she plans to imitate them. That's a contemptible and losing strategy.

10. I believe the Dems have to run a centrist if they are to get back in power

I'm not sure why the big opposition to this. I am really liberal on some social issues but on some issues my views conflict with the currently popular Dem platform. Therefore I have to compromise all the time when I vote. I don't understand the reluctance of wanting a candidate who will bring in the most votes for the Dem party. Standing on principle is desirable, but a certain way to always be on the losing side in politics is never to compromise.

IMHO, I'd like to see a person who can at least appreciate a wide variety of views and work towards reconciliation of the Dem Party.
