Why does the DLC insult us? (by Steve Gilliard)
The DLC couldn't wait until the end of the election to run to the Wall Street Journal and run down Michael Moore and MoveOn.

The same Michael Moore who spent his own dime in the fall to run around the country and help register voters. ...

MoveOn, which mobilized millions of voters, raised tens of millions of dollars and helped in key races.

People who didn't only believe in democracy, but embraced it and made it happen for other people. Who cared about the system enough to drop their cynicism, and embrace the process. And even after Kerry lost, buckled down and continued to be involved. They didn't retreat, they regrouped and reformed. I've seen this first-hand. Our blogs have far more traffic now than six months ago.

Last year, we raised $75K for Ginny Schrader. This week, we raised $200K for Paul Hackett. The DLC is nowhere to be seen. But we are. Win or lose, every GOP candidate has to worry about the netroots and their money. None are safe. None.

But does the DLC embrace this? No. They vilify us and minimize our collective efforts. They decided we were the enemy and went after us. We didn't back their guys, we didn't lose with their GOP-Lite positions. But they refuse to own up to it, even after their guys lost decisively to Dean for DNC chair. Instead, they attack Kos and the rest of us.

Understand this: every time they attack the blogs or MoveOn or Howard Dean, they are attacking us, you, me, all of us. They simply want us to go away. They want us to shut up and give them money and go away. They have only contempt for our collective hard work and effort. They think we're the problem and tell the Republicans so every chance they get.

8. Right here.
Understand this: every time they attack the blogs or MoveOn or Howard Dean, they are attacking us, you, me, all of us.

It means you shouldn't accept criticism, just take it as an attack on certain values, the way the Republicans like to frame things.

6. The Wall Street Journal's publisher and owner supports torture.
Does the DLC consider the readership of the Wall Street Journal to be more important than the rest of us.

I agree with, "every time they attack the blogs or MoveOn or Howard Dean, they are attacking us, you, me, all of us."

Maybe the people in the "middle" are smug in their belief that "well the DLC doesn't attack me. I don't know that that is any badge of honor. I rather think that it is not.

9. I am pretty sure he was attacking my two senators and my rep.
n his speech when he said congressional democrats do not stand for anything and appear negative. As I support them, he attacks me by extension.

10. What arrogance
who gave him the job of deciding for everyone else what Congressional Democrats stand for? For his information, not that he's interested in the opinion of a lowly citizen, but I think we are capable of deciding which Congressional Democrats stand for something. I, eg, like what Rep. Conyers stands for. Rep. Barney Frank stands for something also, as does Rep. Rangel, Kucinich, and at least another hundred or so who voted against the illegal war he supports.

I'd thank these ill-informed individuals to begin respecting the intelligence of the American people, before they expect us to pay any attention to what they have to say. There's always the 'other' party which seems to be better suited to his particular ideology.

11. The DLC does not consider it to be in its best interests to reach out
to the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. It has crunched the numbers. In order to win elections, it must reach out to the Independent voters. There are more of them than us. Therefore, the DLC wants to put as much distance as it can between itself and us to reach out to "them."

If you want the DLC to reach out to you, change your party registration to "Independent." If that is not your political persuasion, stay in the party and work against that which the DLC promotes. Whatever or whomever it might be will be working against the interests of the common man.

It was not for nothing the term "Republican-lite" sprang up over the last few years. That term is appropriately applied to the DLC. Sorry you did not get the memo earlier, Steve ....

they may hurt our chances of winning future elections, but why should we be offended?

If some wealthy liberals started a pro-choice, pro-universal healthcare, and anti-war Republican Liberation Council..why should Republicans be offended? They should be delighted to have new voters in their party. The Republican Liberation Council may never raise money for Republican ads, it might draw likely donations away from conservative campaigns, it may even result in bad publicity for candidates like Ralph Reed and Rick Santorum..but insulting? Losing an election because of such an organization should be a political lesson..not an insult!
