Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) briefed the House Democratic caucus yesterday on Senate Democrats’ strategy for considering the nomination of Judge John Roberts to the Supreme Court.
Speaking briefly at a meeting dominated by talk of an impending vote on the Central America Free Trade Agreement, Durbin said Democrats would adopt a posture of asking questions about Roberts rather than rejecting him out of hand, two sources who were there said.
To that end, female Democratic senators are planning to unveil a website tomorrow that will solicit questions that the public would like to ask Roberts during his upcoming confirmation hearings......
Durbin also cited polling data showing that Democrats had won the “nuclear option” battle earlier this year in the eyes of the public.
