Time to give to the "We've Got Your Back" campaign again!

Anyone with me?

Remember to add the $.01 at the end so they know what it's for.

The lies: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1965420&mesg_id=1965420

And the TRUTH (courtesy of madfloridian):

Howard Dean: "We have a republican appointed supreme court that decided they can take your house and put a Sheraton Hotel in there. We have a republican government that can tell you when your loved ones get a feeding tube and when they don't."

It is worded quite well. Stop falling for right wing talking points.

Edit for link.

1. Obviously the DLC is on the offensive this week
Look for the usual Biden/Richardson/Feinstein condemnations of Dean's speech in the next few days :eyes:

2. Thanks, this spin is all over the right wing blogs.
They have twisted it so much it is beyond recognizable. At Kos and Booman....question after question...did Dean really say this?

It is organized.

4. STOP - NOT THE SAME QUOTE
Regarding the new quote floating around; I have no idea whether or not Dean said it, but I have no reason to believe that he did.

However, the information posted above has nothing to do with this new supposed quote.

The "Lie": Right-wingers are saying that Dean spoke in front of the College Democrats of America on July 22nd and said "The president and his right-wing Supreme Court think it is 'okay' to have the government take your house if they feel like putting a hotel where your house is," Dean said, not mentioning that until he nominated John Roberts to the Supreme Court this week, Bush had not appointed anyone to the high court."

The "truth": You found Dean saying "We have a republican appointed supreme court that decided they can take your house and put a Sheraton Hotel in there.", but this isn't the same speaking event. This was from a July 16th speech he gave at Westminster College in Salt Lake City.

To debunk what is being said about him, we need to find quotes from the 22nd, not quotes from the 16th!

5. It was the liberal side of the court that decided the
eminent domain case, and Polosi supports the decision.

We are on the wrong side on this one, and if the quote by Dean is even half accurate than it is not very smart politics.

The public knows that kelso was a liberal decision.

I am way more liberal than you; I'll be the judge of that.

10. I don't believe these are liberal judges
They were not appointed by liberals unless you considered, Clinton, Ford and George H. Bush a liberal. All that is left on the bench are moderates and extreme right wing wackos.

11. You have it so wrong, because you are actually a centrist.
Those judges that you call "centrist" are actually conservative to me, and the ones you call "conservative" are reactionary to me.

That's how liberal I am, that I would call them that.

13. No, no! I'm more liberal
Actually, according to what I read today, I'm a centrist. You see. I'm at the center, and anything to the left of me is far too liberal, and anything to the right of me is too conservative. I'm just right.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to take these goal posts and move them again.

14. Again you are quoting Town Hall, etc. Nothing wrong with it.
Why are you spending your time trying to be apologetic? I have not seen that anywhere but Newsmax and Town Hall.

I just don't see a transcript, and I would like one. I looked at their website, all over.

Do you see what they are doing? They could be combining some of what he said in Utah? In Utah he said Bush and his right wing admin want to control what goes on in our private lives and he mentioned Schiavo.

I give up. Let's all watch every word he says and then let's set up a page for apologies for Dean's word.

Hell, I'm tired of this. You have someone trying to stand up and his own party bringing him down if every word it not correct.

He was right...we are only partly learning to be a minority party. Minority parties have to fight back....our party cowers. Oops, bad Dean said something else wrong. Bad Dean. Good Bush.

I give up. You set up an apology page for everything he says.

We might as well. We are losing our damn country, and we are all so afraid he might have misspoke and offended. So what?

We need a fighter who is not afraid to make mistakes, who is not afraid his own will eat him alive if he smiles crooked.

You know what, I am beginning to think we deserve what we are getting right now....screwed

He's absolutely right and I wish people would get it through their thick headed skull that the Supreme Court is Republican controlled. He shouldn't apologize I hope he hits the talk show circuit and repeats it over and over again.

The reason why freepers are freaked out about it, is because it's the truth and if more Americans were aware of it, they'd think twice about voting republican especially the ones that will screw themselves over wedge issues like abortion.

30. I know. I put the sarcasm drippy thing in.
I am so tired of the right wing folks coming here, doing this, ignoring the horrible things going on here in this country.

It is the truth, it is all Republican controlled. They won't be so proud of it when more jobs are lost, their parents lose more of their medical care and so on.

And even if they went and took "their" quote and replaced it with "ours", it wouldn't make one lick of difference anyways. Sorry, I don't have to be a complete Kool-Aid to be a Democrat. It's not necessary.

Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 04:37 PM by SlipperySlope
I'm sorry, maybe I'm just confused, but we seem to be talking about entirely different things. I was just trying to help.

There is a supposed quote from the 22nd from Howard Dean. I thought the point of your post was "look at those rightwingers, they are misquoting dean, here is what he really said". That's fine, if they are misquoting him, they are misquoting him, but pulling up a similar quote from the 16th isn't going to help.

Do you understand my point?

If you want to catch the righters making up stuff about Dean, the quote from the 16th doesn't help. It isn't from the same speech. We can't use this to catch them in a lie.

27. It does too help.
It's DOCUMENTATION from an EARLIER date of what he said on THIS VERY SUBJECT.

All THEY have is some crazy woman from CNS who could well be making things up--and, ANYWAY, since he said what he said in Utah before he actually went to Washington, then can we refer to the EARLIER QUOTE for what he REALLY meant instead????

The supreme court is 77% Republican appointed and 23% centrist appointed. There isn't a single supreme court justice appointed by a liberal sitting on the bench!

This is IDIOTIC, you guys.

Meanwhile, BUSH FLIPS US OFF and nobody says a thing?

Aren't there just a FEW more pressing issues to address?

We ALL know what he said in Utah and I am convinced that he said the same thing in Washington and was misquoted by the evil shrew at CNS. I just wrote her editor and asked them for their proof, and offered the article with his Utah quote to them. I also wrote to correct Fox News.

Want to do something constructive with this? Do what I did, and correct them, and THEN go donate to the DNC!

25. Here's an idea,
that unfortunately, will require some work. Ideally done by someone else :)
I,like many of you here, support the stance Mr. Dean has taken and agree with most everything he says. I LIKE the idea he is telling the GOP to pound sand (get lost)and doesn't feel the need to please everybody. He has a quality not recognizable to many, it's called a backbone!
Anyhow, to my point. Why don't we simply inform the DLC, and our elected representatives, that we support the work Mr. Dean is doing on behalf of the Democratic Party?
The DLC seems to think they speak for everyone that votes democratic. They sure as hell don't speak for me. What about you?
