Kennedy: Roberts Holds “Cramped View of the Voting Rights Act”
Kennedy: Roberts Holds “Cramped View of the Voting Rights Act”
July 28th, 2005

Senator Ted Kennedy said today that the documents made public so far indicates that John Roberts, the Supreme Court nominee holds a “rather cramped view of the Voting Rights Act.”

Materials that Roberts drafted while at the Justice Department and White House counsel’s office during the Reagan administration “certainly raise some questions in my mind about his commitment” to civil rights, said Kennedy, D-Mass.

Kennedy’s remarks showed a willingness to raise pointed questions when most other Democrats have stuck to pleasantries about Roberts’ credentials ahead of his confirmation hearings.

3. G'bless Ted Kennedy. We love him here in Massachusetts . . .
.
G'bless Ted Kennedy. We love him here in Massachusetts . . . and when Ted tosses out those "lawyerly" words, e.g., "cramped view" of some law by some other guy, well. It suits us just fine. And it's all too true, unfortunately. That is, Ted's take on Roberts. Roberts is so damn cramped and crimped in his legal theories that his vision is myopic!

Roberts head, legally speaking, is back in Neanderthal times. States rights. The federal government cannot "order" the states to do squat, let alone force em to do stuff about voting equality!

Go, Ted, go. Give 'em hell, Ted.

4. filibuster NOW
Election fraud is deadly serious. We will never get anywhere if we can't mount an effective defense against the election fraud. A neofascist thug rubberstamping election fraud on the Supreme Court is a death sentence to our party.
