Bush Changes GWOT to GSAVE....Gosh....ain't that great.
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 10:44 AM by KoKo01

Juliette Kayyem writes in an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times: "It was President Bush himself who insisted on calling it a global war on terror. . . . 'A war between good and evil,' he called it. A war 'to save the world.'

"But now, apparently, a decision has been made that the language of war isn't working for him anymore. . . .

"War, it seems, is so 2004."
--------------------------------------------------------------

Fred Kaplan writes in Slate:
"The Times story doesn't notice what appears to be the driving force behind the new slogan--a desire for a happier acronym.

"Look at the first letters of Global War on Terrorism. GWOT. What does that mean; how is it pronounced? Gwot? Too frivolously rowdy, like a fight scene in a Marvel comic book (Bam! Pfooff! Gwot!). Gee-wot? Sounds like a garbled question (Gee what?).

"Then look at Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism. Its acronym is GSAVE--i.e., gee-save. We're out to save the world, see, not wage war on it."

1. They discarded Wsave - too obvious. But George will save us all
When he's alone among friends, or just in his own mind, he refers to this as "my struggle".

2. You're in trouble when your "plan" needs a slogan in the first place.
The need to then change the slogan mid-stream is a sure sign of desperation.

5. absolutely
don't you love hwo they are scrambling to poke holes in things like the PLame affair, yet they have no means to truly debink which would only be proven with facts to the contrary. So basically what they are saying now is... yeah he was involved but it is nothing to be concerned with.... no big deal.. I heard it on a clip from Jon Gibson...

I think the "it's no big deal" meme is about to come from everywhere.

12. It's all about marketing. NOTHING more. And this isn't the first time.
Let's all remember that lovely morph-job from "weapons of mass destruction" to "weaponsofmassdestructionrelatedprogramactivities."

4. yeah well
us democrats are in a war (so to speak) against violent, social, religious, and economical extremism. So f*ing what. These pigs think that they can just put some vague blanket label on something to make themselves look good... they've got another thing coming.

7. Al CIAda is now global?
This is nothing but a prelude to the New World Order -- a globalist mindset which desires to encapsulate the world, and spread its tentacles into every nook and crany.

As I understand it, the term "Al Qaeda" isn't a term which folks like Osama used for themselves. It's a term which was given to them by our government, and it quite literally simply means "The Group".

It has always struck me as odd that these 'people' would try to create a grouping of such a disparate, leaderless group of characters. But then again, it makes perfect sense...when you consider their ulterior motivations.

Dropping bombs from thousands of feet above the intended target, without regard to the fact that the target is in a residential neighborhood, is pretty violent and pretty extreme in my opinion. I also have heard Bush's response to such a criticism -- it went something like: "Those people just want to see more American soldiers die."

That sort of thinking would justify the launching of 'nookular' ICBM against entire population centers. If US Soldiers must place themselves at a higher risk of death or injury in order to better ensure the safety of non-combatants, then I am sorry -- that is part of the job. We expect our soldiers to represent our values, and not to become terrorists themselves.

9. Can't you just visualize the scene
in Turd Blossom's office? Shrub, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, etc...

all seated at little desks with Karl saying, "Ok, all together now, repeat after me, 'Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism'.
No one leaves the room until you all get it right."
