3. Pete Sessions (corporate whore scumbucket) wants to abolish...
...all forms of community-sponsored electronic communications--Internet, television, cable, telephone, you name it. This opens a new front in the war being waged by the media behemoths against independent and diverse media that represent all voices.

8. Another feed bag for corporate America
(1) PROHIBITION.—Effective 60 days after the date of enactment of the Preserving Innovation in Telecom Act of 2005, neither any State or local government, nor any entity affiliated with such a government, shall provide any telecommunications, telecommunications service, information service, or cable service in any geographic area within the jurisdiction of such government in which a corporation or other private entity that is not affiliated with any State or local government is offering a substantially similar service.

From the Freepress.net site: "....legislation was introduced by Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) -- a former SBC executive -- and is a blatant effort by the telecom and cable companies to cement their monopoly control of communications at the expense of innovation, competition, and local choice."

God forbid the Republicans should EVER do anything for the people who elected them. Done and kicked, and thanks.

10. Might have a little trouble middle of a Saturday night
Aren't we all supposed to be out dancin' and liquor'd up or sump'in? (Or sleeping, except for hoot owls like me.) I'll help you keep it kicked till morning, FC. Little potential losses like this can lead to bigger ones if we don't fight 'em.

:)

And, by the way, I'm a big fan of your irregular dwarf galaxies. :)

13. Why thank you
I'm quite proud of them myself. But I can't take all the credit. Persian astrologers knew of them first. :)

BTW, I just realized I referred to this as a "little potential loss"; of course it's not little. Several years ago Americans would have been up in arms over such a blatantly crass piece of legislation favoring monopolies. Now, relatively speaking, it seems like just one more among many grains of sand the Right keeps kicking in America's face. I'm appalled by how my perspective has shifted.

12. Aargh
Oh why can't they make these bills simpler? Maybe if it all wasn't wrapped in Congress-ese, it might not get voted through
