Is "Time-Warner Cable going to carry Gore's new "Current" Network?
I can't wait to call them tomorrow morning and find out. My dealings with them haven't been good in the past...clueless phone contact...but I can't wait to get "Current!" It might now be all we hoped for ...but if it's an alternative to the current crap I DON'T watch then I will be happy. I don't think Gore will let us down on this. But the "harpies" continue to go at him about it.

Anyone know if Time-Warner will carry it? I hope I don't have to "upgrade" to get it because I already pay over $49.50.00 for crap I never watch. I keep it because I haven't given up hope...but I'm on the edge here of cancelling. Unless Time-Warner intends to carry it without me having to buy the "premium channels," I guess I won't be able to view it. :-(

3. I'm sure they will carry it, as will Comcast and the other cable companies
...and I'm just as sure that it will be available to digital-only subscribers, which means if you don't pay $80.00 for TV, you won't see it.

Supposedly digital TV is going to be a "mandatory" standard one day. By the time that comes, they should be forced to change their subscriber packages. There's no reason with today's technology that a cable company couldn't offer their subscribers a package of, say 25 channels of their choice for $25/month.

I know I could get by with 25 channels easily. No home shopping channels. No right wing religious channels. No cable news networks. Definitely the BBC and CBC, and "Current" along with the "Independent" News Channel that's in development.

7. The cable companies tell you that the "cafeteria" system of getting
channels is impossible, but in fact, they can turn individual channels on and off for you from their headquarters.

They simply choose to force you to pay for lots of crap channels to get the ones you want because they know that no intelligent person would pay for some of the idiot channels if they actually had to select them. Then the few companies that own all the cable channels would lose money, and we can't have that.

Satellite TV systems in Japan let you select individual channels for the equivalent of $3 to $5 each per month.

If we had that, I could get by with $30 a month plus Internet.

8. I believe Canada let's you pick and choose
Makes way too much sense. I'd love that. I have absolutely no need for the gazillion shopping channels, kids channels, and religious programming, to namne a few.

5. Yes, if they carry Newsworld International (usually on digital cable)
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 06:42 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
they will carry Current.

The REAL liberal news station will go dark at midnight Eastern Time today to be replaced by Al Gore's lame attempt at a video blog.

ON EDIT: Maybe that post wasn't clear.

NWI is being replaced by Current. Both Time-Warner and Comcast have carried NWI as a digital tier station, usually in the 200s somewhere. Current will be on the channel-formerly-known-as-Newsworld-International.

6. I don't have "Digital Time-Warner" so I guess I'm out of luck...I really
don't see upgrading for all that money...I guess I'll wait and see how it does. I'm sad to see that "common folks" won't be able to get "Current TV," though. I don't want the extra crap .....just give me something I can watch for more than half an hour without :puke: ing or gagging.

I hope that we can all pressure our cables to carry it, though. For those of us who still use "dial -up" and don't want to pay the big bucks for "digital.'

After all I'm paying almost $50.00 a month for NOTHING except C-Spans and the occasional PBS thingy. Shouldn't they give US a break?

12. I saw a few seconds of the new programming this morning
I'm not in the demographics they're after and it certainly didn't appeal to me. It's definitely for the younger viewer and I understand they will have news every half hour. But the rest, as far as I could see, was a "hipper" version of Dateline.
