A wee little reminder for Republicans praising Bush's recess appt.
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 05:14 PM by Pacifist Patriot
On the last day of a congressional recess, President Clinton appointed James Hormel ambassador to Luxembourg without Senate confirmation.

In response, Sen. James Inhofe, R-OK, said, "(Clinton) has shown contempt for Congress and the Constitution."

For an ambassadorship to Luxembourg!

But when Bush appoints a controversial figure to represent the U.S. in the United Nations he's exercising his Constitutional responsibility and moral duties. Right. No hypocrisy there folks. Move along. Nothing to see.

edited: to fix the quote. Clinton was originally in brackets instead of parenthesis and did not show up in the post.

3. I know. But it still feels good to point it out.
My superior intellect needs the smug rush. ;)

4. change tact. every repug i talk to, so now, when a dem is in office
it is ok for him to appoint people while senate is on recess. repugs have just made it ok

it is ok for dem president to lie about going to war

dem president is now allowed to have our majority keep repugs out of senate and house meetings

all that repugs have done in the last 5 years, now allow dems to

this is what repugs have created. maybe this will help them to see what they are creating

7. Yes, the precedent-setting meme sometimes gets through to some.
But frustratingly few and far between.

5. Remember, the Hormel flap was about who he WAS (gay), not his ACTIONS.
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 05:33 PM by dback
Bolton's nomination was being blocked because of questions about his behavior, his temper, and possible unethical or illegal actions (including possible perjury in the Plame invesitgation).

Hormel was being blocked by right-wing Republicans for one reason: he was gay.

Do NOT let Republicans claim "Oh, Bush is just doing what Clinton did." They are NOT similar cases.

6. Yes, but Inhofe's response does not address the dissimilarity...
or context. That's the beauty of it. I will never pass up an opportunity to use their own words against them.
