USAToday/Gallup Poll: Bush approval ratings hit lowest point of tenure

WASHINGTON (USATODAY.com) - President Bush's job approval ratings have hit the lowest point of his tenure and the number of Americans with an unfavorable opinion of him has reached 50% for the first time, according to a Gallup poll released Friday.

Forty-four percent of Americans approve of the way Bush is handling his job, according to the poll, while 51% disapprove. That is a four-point drop from Bush's approval rating of July 22-24 and 1% below his previous low of 45% in a poll taken June 24-26. Bush's approval ratings have now been at 50% or lower since mid-March.

The poll also puts Bush's unfavorable rating among Americans at the highest level of his presidency — 50%. Forty-eight percent of Americans had a favorable opinion of the president, marking the first time in Bush's tenure that his unfavorable rating is higher than his favorable rating. In contrast, a Gallup poll in late November of 2001, less than three months after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, put Bush's favorable rating at 87% and his unfavorable rating at 11%.

Bush's previous low favorable rating came twice in October 2004, when 51% of Americans had a favorable opinion of the president and 46% had an unfavorable opinion.

2. Wasn't there another poll that showed him at 42% just
last week?? Or am I seeing things in my old age? Or is it just wishful thinking?

He just keeps flushing himself down the toilet, doesn't he?

7. MSM poll numbers are getting fabricated
Someone fiddled with rawer numbers of some poll to show the numbers well under 40% in another thread here on DU.

8. Polls, trolls, moles--nothing makes sense
--like He's worried! Gonzales is in, as are Bolton and Roberts. Rove in shame, remains as do Cheney and Rummy; Fitzgerald goes in October (Truthout); the national debt continues to flourish; the "war" death rate climbs still; the Democrats can't/won't get it together; Bush is bushed and heading for recess; the lazy dazy 50% phased; the remainder, crazed. And Bushco forges ahead per plan. I'm worried--mighty, mighty worried.

10. Is there a way to get notified when these polls come out?
I haven't voted lately. Been busy. Bet a lot of DEMS have. For awhile I'd jump on them every time someone posted it on the DU. But I haven't seen them for awhile.

14. IN a civilized society
he couldn't have stolen two elections ~ he would have been jailed for insider trading in the Harken Oil scandal before he even had a chance to try.

One good thing, because you always have to look at the bright side of things. Neither he nor Cheney are behind the wheel of a car at least for a while. This must be the first time two convicted drunken drivers occupied the WH.

15. Doesn't matter
This President keeps sinking lower and lower in the polls, but he keeps making extremist decisions. Bolton's appointment to the UN is the most outrageous move yet and is likely in preparation for War with Iran. Roberts is obviously a payback for his help in the 2000 election theft.

This group knows that polls don't mean squat in odd numbered years. They'll pull some bullshit in mid to late 2006 in order to maintain control.

Who says that the polls mean anything at all when you control the vote count anyway?

Americans not only have lost confidence in the President, but they've lost confidence in American Democracy itself. Without fair elections for another 10 years the only recourse will be violent Revolution!
