"Mrs. Adams, who received an M.A. in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill, was an exceptional community activist. A tireless supporter of peace, racial harmony, and social justice causes, she was an early member of the League of Women Voters, a founding member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), a founder of the seven-year vigil against the Vietnam War (which met weekly in front of the Franklin Street post office), an active supporter of the Interfaith Council, and a cofounder of the Dispute Resolution Center, (now in Carrboro), the first such center in North Carolina. Early on she directed a Christian Education Program for the Chapel of the Cross, and she was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church, but eventually she became a member of the Chapel Hill Society of Friends, her religious community for much of her life."

The paper went into a lot more detail than the website. She was 102 years old and was very colorful. Among her many "moments" as an activist was using her house as bond (without telling her husband) to bail out a man who refused to fight in the Vietnam War and being pepper sprayed in the NC governor's office because she refused to leave until the governor discussed raising pay for UNC housekeepers (her late husband was a UNC professor). She was also an outspoken opponent of segregation.
