In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

Have you seen this from the American Conservative? I realize that right-wing sources are very free with their facts, but is something like this bubbling up with the Bolton appointment and the recent Iran posturing? I'm sorry, but I simply do not trust world events as being wholly and utterly independent of the machinations of our government, anymore. If we suffer another 9/11 and this nuclear contingency takes effect, I will undoubtedly be thinking about how they pulled this off, not whether or not they pulled this off.

My tinfoil hat used to not be there at all, but these last five years have convinced me that this story is at least possibly true, and if so, we are in waaay deeper than we think. If this story is true, we either win NOW or we hold on white-knucled as Bush will sully our name for centuries to come and get a whole lot of us killed in the process.

Nuke Iran? Sure, go ahead! When it is an American city that ends up under a mushroom cloud you will have no one to blame but yourselves.

When a person becomes a threat to himself and others, a judge will issue an emergency order committing the person to a psychiatric institution. The Bush regime is a threat to the entire planer, we need intervention!

There has been a lot of very real and very dangerous stuff going on that people have been trying to pass off as "tinfoil."

But, to be frank, I do not believe the official 9/11 Commission version of the terrorist attack on those five airliners, so that will tell you where I stand on the "tinfoil accusation". I do not pretend to know the story, but I kow that what we were told cannot possibly be the truth. Too many coincidences.

I'm just tired of being accused of not being credible and then later be proven right only to be accused of it again the next time I see something worth reporting.

And this story is pretty damned horrible, so forgive the pre-emptive strike..

5. The American Conservative is....

Pat Buchanan's magazine. It's actually fairly level headed. It's far right but it's the level headed far right. It's mostly anti-Bush. They've mention Downing Street Memo and somewhat oppose the war. The note how Bush has let the conservative movement down.

I would be happier if it was the mad ramblings of a Thomas Friedman character, because this story scares me quite a bit.
