We should accustom people to long waits on Election Nights

just my opinion,but I think our culture of needing everything YESTERDAY actually hampers the thorough counting of votes

And once the press announces something it seems that 95% of the public accepts the initial report regardless of whether it is proven true later on

4. The poor, especially African-Americans, are used to it!

The bigger problem is that the working poor often don't get paid time off to vote. So in order to "stand in long lines to vote" they loose a day's pay, which is often the difference between eating or not eating, etc.

If they have kids, then they have to find some body to babysit, usually costing them money they don't have - - and getting to the polls costs trips on the bus or gas in their car that they can't afford.

There have been endless numbers of bills trying to make election day a paid holiday or move the elections to week ends, but the Republicans vote them down.
