No doubt about it. A showing like this and the publicity that will accompany the recount for days to come is a Victory any way you cut it.

that is the key point
getting anywhere near 50 percent in this district is freaking amazing. This is a very Republican district.

11. Bush got 67% of the vote just last November and..

7. I still can't believe the percentage change from last year...
Hackett's up almost thirty points on Kerry's percentage in some areas. That's insane :)

9. the lesson
you campaign in every area of a target state. You can't run up big enough margins in the cities to avoid entire areas.

8. Only if we win
If we lose it will matter not. It will get some press on liberal sites, bit in the grand scheme of things it is still a loss.I am no longer interested in the "Close but not cigar." We need to win.

13. You're missing the big picture.
What changes tomorrow if Hackett wins? Nothing. But what does matter is that a 30 year solid R district just went from 70/30 to 50/50. Now, multiple that delta in ever district in the country.....

We may not win the election tonight....but the Republicans have already lost. Visualize a Democratic Congressional majority greeting W on 11/6/6......

14. Big picture
will only be reinforced with a win.

Maybe I'm too old to be at a point where I conside lose a win.

This is one Congressional District, just one. If we win, we can add it to our column. If we lose, we can't. Numbers matter.

17. I'd caution against treating this as a precursor to 2006.
The dynamic is going to change. The Republicans are going to pull out of Iraq right before the 06 mid-terms in an attempt to prevent this exact thing from happening.

Will it work? I don't know, I guess it depends on how well the Democrats can make Iraq stick to GOP incumbents, but I do think that the situation at the time will probably be different.

16. I'm with you
after all these years of enduring stolen elections, close is nice but I would prefer the win. Because as we know, they other side is far from humble when they win and pretend as if there were a landslide. And I am fucking sick of it.

10. there needs to be a very thorough and very public recount
With FBI organized crime investigators, GAO election fraud investigators, and the whole nine yards.

A recount of this kind is the best possible result, as we would find massive fraud instantly. I'm betting it was a Hackett landslide with massive rethug fraud.
