Oh, BROTHER!
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 04:30 PM by in_cog_ni_to
What the heck is wrong with saying, "I didn't go to Yale, my parents couldn't afford it." "Unlike some of the other candidates, I grew up poor." PARAPHRASED... Clark said this on the campaign trail today and the CNN embed just said..."Clark is having to take back MORE statements today." Blah...blah...blah!

THEN, the WENCH, Judy Woodruff said....IN A SNOTTY TONE OF VOICE..."I've seen the neighborhood Wes Clark grew up in. I wonder if his old neighbors would call it a poor neighborhood?" :grr: :nuke:

50. Clark has become a whipping boy
You can tell the GOPers are scared of a Clark nomination because they've been trashing him left and right. The Fox News AllStars were unanimous in their dismissal of his chances - with Juan Williams saying he's done after NH. Wishful thinking.

Kucinich grew up dirt poor, as did Gephardt, and Edwards. Lieberman's parents were not exactly rich. I'm not sure about Sharpton.

"Unlike the other candidates, I grew up poor." "I didn't go to Yale, my parents couldn't afford it." Granted, he did not "single" Edwards out of "the other candidates", but the RICH ones know who the hell they are! AND, what? Edwards is insulted now because Wes didn't call him poor? That won't wash...that would be ridiculous if THAT is going to be an issue!

it was a paraphrase....I can't remember, word for word what he said...that was the GIST of it. MY point WAS....why is it his responsibility to point out who else is POOR????? That is RUDE! Don't you think? I would never, ever say that another person was poor...it's not MY place and it isn't HIS place to point out that Kucinich,, Edwards and Gep were poor. He was referring to the RICH, Yale graduates and they know who they are and so do the NH voters.

Clark said in Keene, N.H. Kerry, Dean and Lieberman graduated from the Ivy League school, as did Bush.   "Unlike all the rest of the people in this race, I did grow up poor."

Clark's playing the 'poor card' and it's just not true !

It is NOT Wes Clark's job to tell the world that Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards were POOR! Give it a rest. Do you actually believe that there is ONE person left on this earth who DOESN'T know that John Edwards is the "son of a millworker" and Dennis Kucinich grew up in poverty? Damn.

Change ONE damn word in that sentence....rest=some...would THAT make you happy? Un-fucking-believable.

38. I'm sorry you feel compelled to spin Clark's unfortunate misstatement
Candidates sometimes misspeak.

I prefer to accept this and admit that they're human rather than to create some cockamamy story about what they 'meant'

When Dean said 'Soviet Union' it was a mistake.

When Clark said "Unlike all the rest of the people in this race, I did grow up poor." it was a mistake.

It's not such a big deal.

participated in a Dean "Soviet Union" smear. Never happened. I am not spinning his words. I am saying that YOU, Hoppin_Mad, just don't want to admit that you know who that statement was aimed at. You know it was Kerry, Dean and Bush. If he misspoke, he shouldn't be skewered for it. Leave that to Judy Woodruff and her cohorts...they are doing that for you. Not to worry.

For some reason, the whores seem to have Clark in their sights now.

I will not say that turn-about is fair play.

I will not gloat as I read exclamations of outrage from people who were promoting the media trashing of Dean just a few short days ago.

But i will remind you that some of us tried to warn you that this was coming.

And after they have knocked off everyome else, it will be Kerry---I just wonder what those pigs have in store for HIM.....

This hyper focus on precise accuracy is just an excuse for the lazy news whores and pricks not to have to do any real thinking or engage in a disucssion of any substance.

Whether this pablum is being laid upon Clark, or Kerry, or Kucicich, or Edwards, or Sharpton, or Dean, or yes, even Lieberman, we should object. There may be a twinlke of satisfaction in thinking "Well, now he's getting what my candidate had to suffer," it will never stop until we all condemn it every time it happens.

Ummm, Wes. Last time we checked you WERE A WASHINGTON LOBBYISTS before you got into the race.

This guy shoots from the hip more than Dean, and Clark is worse at it than Dean because most of the time what Clar shoots out has nothing to do with what he is talking about.

How do you jump from "I'M A GENERAL" straight into "I have never taken a dime from Washington lobbyist"?

this thread is about? He was on camera .. he said it .. and that he is not responsible for what has happened in Washington. He's not a politician . People don't just suddenly become politicians just because they decide to run for President. He actually went on to say he had never put any deals together or cast votes for anything ... he doesn't know what to say. No experience in politics. He's trying to make it a PLUS, but imo, he had a much better arrangement with his pre-campaign gigs.. for HIM.
