Truly pathetic:

Serously, I cannot believe how many people over there are sinking into the "we lost, we're losers, you're all losers, Hackett was a terrible pro-war DLC shill, wah, wah, wah..." They're totally attacking each other over this, refusing to see any big picture whatsoever.

I never thought I'd say this, but, WOW am I glad DU isn't being a bunch of babies!

1. Hackett walked into fierce GOP territory and got what 48/49%
Good showing...Hackett wasnt pro-war either. He said Bush misused the military in this case. Some people just like to complain...

2. They're basically just following the rules.
1. Any loss must be attributed to the DLC.
2. Any win must be attributed to grassroots.
3. Keep repeating as you get more people to follow the rules.

I'm surprised it's not happening here.

5. Yeah, I've seen DUers starting to act a bit more mature lately.
I hope it's a trend.

12. Are you putting out feelers? Trying to get it to happen?
Actually the DLC had nothing to do with this. Unfortunately.

19. Yeah, you know me.
I just love getting into the same tired arguments over and over again. It's not like I value my time enough to have over 300 people on ignore or anything.

3. This is always the consequence of a much-wanted win.
I almost didn't come here today - it can really demoralize you.
It will get better in a few days when emotions settle down a bit.
NOTHING could be as bad as last November (yet)!

8. Oh, there were some good posts on that thread, but there were a lot
of people who are just absolutely hell-bent on beating each other up over this. Especially near the bottom.

10. Isn't respectful debate amongst dems acceptable?
I listened to Hackett speak with Amy Goodman this morning on Democracy Now and he was going on about how if his unit is called to return to Iraq he intends to join them. He could not identify with calling this an unjust war. He seemed to focus more on the War Management Style -- that the problem with the war in Iraq was not that we are THERE but that we need to be doing it better. I think Hackett has been brave in being an outspoken vet critical of Bush -- but that doesn't make him above any questioning or above strategic/ideological reproach.

other and sliding into a depressed funk.

15. I thought Hackett ran a helluva campaign and set the standard
by which all congressional and Senatorial campaigns should be run in 2006.

Going into such a heavily red area and coming out the way he did demonstrates we can win in the red states and elsewhere. Taking back the House and the Senate is an achievable goal.

DLC, DNC, PDA, anything elese you care to name should all take notice of how Hackett accomplished this.

21. i did not like Hackett's position on the war
Hackett ran a great campaign ... he ran it under close to impossible conditions and still he almost came away with a miracle ... he should be commended for that ...

i have no idea what if any association he has to the DLC ...

Hackett's position on the war seems to be the same as most elected Democrats ... and that's too bad ... the "we're stuck there" crowd is investing American blood in a sinking ship ...

i would like to see a Democratic Party that finds candidates to run for office who see our continued occupation of Iraq as dead wrong ... i think it would have great appeal to a majority under the "big tent"; it would reflect the diversity of views in the Party on the war and it would be not only good politics but good policy as well ...
