Liberal version of Fox News?
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 05:16 PM by Eric J in MN
Liberty News Televisio says it's not:

AREN’T WE JUST "THE LIBERAL VERSION OF FOX NEWS"?
We think that's an inaccurate description of Liberty News TV, because unlike FOX, we do not DISTORT the truth to serve our political agenda. We merely present facts that are being willfully ignored or casually overlooked by the corporate media. If that comes off as liberal, so be it, but our intention is not to forward a certain political point of view. It is, rather, to expose Americans to a more accurate picture of American politics, so that they can put a halt to what we see as a national crisis facing our environment, our civil rights, and our future.

They produce a half-hour show, once a month. These are shown on the cable channel, "Free Speech TV."

The first edition of Liberty News TV was for February 2005.

The August 2005 edition can be watched online now.

But even if it were the answer to Faux.. they sure can't do much with a "half-hour a day, once a month" :freak:

16. No, he says the frame "RW Power Grab" is a blanket for many things...
...such as the Clinton Impeachment (which I prefer to call the Failed RW Coup), the Grey Davis Recall, and - as Liberty demonstrates so well in that screen capture - the unPATRIOTic Act.

All of them involve RWers cheating the system to grab more undeserved political power for themselves.

18. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
Dare we become as braindead and irrational as the Faux people, but only to point in another direction?
NO WAY! Faux is just that. F a u x news. Right wing propoganda. Not news, not information, not honest reporting. Pure unadulterated spin and spew. Copying them and taking the opposite side is just stupid, incredibly stupid and worse.

Aping an idiot, but facing the other way is simply showing your ugly ass to the audience. We cannot afford to do that.

If there was a station that provided real news, without corporate editing or ownership, it would be an automatic success. By real news, I mean the following:
Drop any political spin when reporting a story.
Do it straight. then research it and follow up in detail.
At all costs, ignore Aruba and other ditzy blonde stories. That is not news.
Forget fair and balanced discussions, by debating a simple-minded point with two talking heads. If you need a commentator, get a real expert, one who gets into detail, background and impact. not some party aparachnik who memorized the Beloved Party talking points.

27. Yes, but if you're familiar with Lakoff, you know that you can't...
...not think of an elephant. In other words, if I'm president and I say, "I am not a crook," I just conjure up the spectre of crookedness.

When they protest that... "Ohhhhh... we're NOT the Liberal Fox News..." they create the aura of "Liberal Fox News" around themselves. Once again, they're proud Lakoffians is my guess.

28. don't mean to thread shift, but
what is
"NGU." ?

Actually we need two news stations,
one that gives news straight,
another that provides commentary, analysis and a liberal point of view.
Together, they would be devastating to the neocons who have stolen our country's soul.

29. I agree that we need two more news channels.
"Independent World Televison" is planned to give the news straight starting in 2007:
www.iwtnews.org

I'm not aware of plans for a 24 hour news station from a liberal point-of-view.

I'd like us to support "Liberty News TV" which is just half-an-hour-per-month, in the hopes that it will expand. They haven't said they will expand, though:

40. I'd be happy with any unbiased news. The news from back in the day
was unbiased.

They trusted the viewers to decide--and decide they did: to end the war and Nixon's failed presidency.

Yikes, I'm old enough to say "the good old days."

41. We need both.
There is a project to create "Independent World Television" news for 2007, which strives to be unbiased and doesn't take money from corporations or the government. I've donated:
www.iwtnews.org

But I would also like "Liberty News TV" (which has more-criticism-of-Bush than defense-of-Bush) to expand

I've also donated to "Liberty News TV"
www.libertynewstv.com

If you just want news which strives to be unbiased, you can support "Independent World Television."

If you can't give money, then sign up for their email list as a way to show your support:
