5. Changing 16th street to Reagan St. is a stupid idea.
Lincoln was the 16th president.

"The Ronald Reagan Expressway"

Disney's Imagineering office in Burbank has a bust of The Gipper, right out there in front of God and everybody.

8. Really piss 'em off--vote "indifferent." I did. Of course I hate the idea,
but indifferent gives them no ammunition whatsoever.

12. Congress already wasted $400,000 on new signs for the Metro.
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 08:30 PM by CBHagman
A few years back, the Republican-controlled Congress slipped through a spending bill that appropriated $400,000 on signs for the Metro. The oh-so-important change? Making sure Ronald Reagan's name was on the signs connected with National Airport.

I should add that within the last few years, Metro has raised fares three times and eliminated the bonus for those of us who spend $20 or more on a fare card. It also has no source of dedicated funding and must go, hat in hand, to a number of local governments (and those worthless 'cans in Congress). It also has severe problems with maintenance, including escalators that are on the blink so often people have heart attacks trying to walk up the longer ones.

The Washington Post recently ran a series on the long-term problems of Metro and its particular weak spots.

Of course, I don't need to tell you that security is a particular nail-biter. If there were a sudden need to empty the trains and get people up to the street level, I'm sure that $400,000 spent on signs will be a BIG HELP to those trying to get up malfunctioning escalators. :sarcasm: And we were thinking of those things before the London attacks, believe me.

I think all the Reagan worshippers should just shut themselves up in their rooms and perform their blasphemous rituals alone, and not subject the rest of us to the time, expense, and annoyance of honoring the old sinner.
