4. I just had a freeper...
argue that John Adams spent months away and that the bu$h observation was a bottom-of-the-barrel observation.
Of course no links were posted.

6. I believe the many "vacations" are
used to teach Bush some superficial understanding of current issues. I suspect there are speech coaches & hypnosis sessions to help with anxiety/ panic attacks. Maybe medical monitoring of medication dosages to control Bush's delusions of grander, just enough to keep him vertical and his speech coherent. I think they have Bush practice, while medicated, to determine how much he can take before his memory is affected and he still appears sober. I think they must have Bush memorize new "responses" for future press questions. Bush probably over learns these "responses" so he can string them together in different sequences.

The two hour mid-day breaks are a reward, Bush gets recess. Opps! Bush falls off his bike, over medicated?

PS Isn't it time to find out if Bush beleives in the End Times, I am serious.

11. Your comment that you belive the vacations are used to
teach superficial understanding of current events - I always felt that Reagan's vacations were for the same reason. He always came back with new, more simple, verbage about difficult issues.

setting with: nukes, machine guns, land mines, etc. are not equal comparisons. The world could end tomorrow with bush on vacation, with adams on vacation what ws the worst that could have happened?

22. John Adams was in poor health...
Score one point for the Freep, he/she is correct about Adams spending months away. Deduct one point for the second part of the statement for general stupidity.

"As President, Adams was once again able to step back from work and politics. He left the capital when Congress was not in session, spending as much as two-thirds of each year at Peacefield, his home in Massachusetts <7b>. This conduct was criticized, including accusations of "a kind of abdication." In 1799 a loyal supporter from Baltimore told Adams outright that the public was outraged by his continued absence: "The people elected you to administer the government. They did not elect your officers...to govern, without your presence or control."

The difference today is that Shrub's sheeple don't seem to care.

15. Jeez, McClellan says Bush gets in touch with Americans in Crawford...
if he really wanted to find out what's on the minds of the average American don't you think he ought to say....TRAVEL a bit on these vacations to places he hasn't been before? You know, go to fairs, shows, generally see the sites. It would probably be cheaper!

Anyway, I move that we stop referring to the trips to Crawfords as "vacations" and start calling the time he spends at the White House his "vacations". Seems like it would be more appropriate.

24. Actually, the article says that is just the time he's spent at Crawford...
The total amount of vacation time actually far exceeds 319 days.

16. Here are some figures:
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 01:02 PM by Contrary1
Junior does want to be like Daddy in at least one thing. I found these numbers
in more than one place, so I assume them to be accurate, and pathetic.
Can we refer to this a "uniquely American"?

Jimmy Carter (D) Georgia: 79 Days (over 1 term - 4 years)
Ronald Reagan (R) California: 335 days (over 2 terms - 8 years)
George H. W. Bush (R) Texas: 543 days (over 1 term - 4 years)
William J. Clinton (D) Arkansas: 152 days (over 2 terms - 8 years)
George W. Bush (R) Texas: 319 days (over 1 1/8 terms - 4 years, 6 months, 15 days)

*** Edited to correct the Dim Son's running total.

During the time Reagan was recuperating from the assassination attempt, did GHWB take any time off while he was temporary President?

but it's easy to forget about those Camp David getaways, and he spent a lot of time there. At least he wasn't as
far away. Not that it matters when it comes to Junior, he isn't really the one running things anyway.
