Digby Nails DLC'ers like Evan Bayh....Calls them "Bedwetters!"
OMG...he really rips Bayh and others like him in this great read:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just Shut Up
-snip-

I guess even though more than half the Democrats signed on to that cock-up, we still should have been even more enthusiastically running off the cliff with old George. What utter nonsense. If DLCer Evan Bayh thinks that we'll build credibility on national security by screaming "War On Terror" louder and shriller than the Republicans, he's nuts. Even they know that slogan has outlived its usefulness.

Might I suggest that the reason Democrats have no credibility on national security is not because we allegedly refuse to defend the country, but because bedwetters like Evan Bayh run all over the country validating the Republican's patented talking points that Democrats refuse to defend the country?

It's true that the American people think we have no backbone. But let's just say the reasons have less to do with our national security policy and more to do with our leadership. We will have credibility on national security when we have a credible national security policy --- and when we show the country that we aren't so afraid of Tom DeLay and Karl Rove that we'll scurry to the front of the line to sign up every time they say boo.

5. Good read.
Worth a nomination and a bookmark of the site.

The problem in NOT that "the Democrats are seen as weak on Defense"
The Problem IS that our Party Leadership won't call the Republicans on their LIES!!!

Democrats catch, prosecute, and Imprison Terrorists that attack the US!
All members of the terrorist cell that first bombrd the WTC are IN PRISON!!!!
Republicans can't catch Bin Laden.

Democrats WIN WARS!!!
Republicans LOSE Wars!!!

6. Bedwetters--how perfect for these whore, blow dried, faux Dems.
Bayh is particularly galling since he'd never get elected to the Senate without the name recognition his truly LIBERAL father provided. There ought to be a rule...if you get elected because of your liberal father's name recognition, you must be a liberal. It's rediculous so let me just say, that regardless of his name, Bayh's sentiments are deplorable.

We should NOT trust Hillary.
We should NOT trust Bill
We should NOT trust DLC
and
We should NOT trust DNC

They are all quislings or reactionary organizations. DNC had hope but Dean has not cleaned house and that's not encouraging.

21. How, exactly, did you expect Dean to "clean house"?
And who would have been the target/

We've still got a little thing like ELECTIONS -- and there haven't even BEEN any yet, aside from that one special election in OH.

Besides, it's not his job to "clean house" and he doesn't have the power to do it anyway, near as I can tell.

He's doing fabulous work, every day, day in and day out. Building strong bridges with our base, building state parties. It's been AWESOME -- and I get exhausted just keeping up with his breakneck pace just a little.

Cut the guy some slack, and don't expect him to do things he's not capable or even authorized to do.

33. Exactly. First we need a farm team of progressive democrats--
--at local and state levels before we start talking about taking out DLC Dems at the national level. At their worst, they still often block some of the worst of the Repub initiatives. Dean has been focussing hard on the farm team problem.

Accountants, credit card companies, insurance companies, investment banks, and health care industry. Ugh.

Those also happen to be the industries that have figured out how to have record profits in an economy that is destroying the middle class.

That's what it means to be DLC, if you ask me.

23. Here we go again...
AIG gave to Max Cleland and Chris Dodd, Jerry Nadler, Marty Meehan and Nita Lowey.

The American Hospital Association contributed to Neil Abercrombie, Dennis Kucinich and Barbara Boxer.

Boston Scientific gave to Ted Kennedy and Jim McGovern.

Qwest Communications kicked in to Sherrod Brown,Diana DeGette and Ed pastor.

And so on...

If you're going to slag Evan Bayh for accepting corporate contributions, I expect you to hold others to the same standard.

25. I will. Kerry and Edwards accepted no PAC money in 2004. I expect the
2008 nominee (or at least the person I support in the primaries) to do the same.

Also, it's not so much that one or two companies gave to Bayh that is revealing. It the fact that so many did and that it's such a representative sampling of the industries that are making so much money off an economy that isn't working for middle class people.

11. It's not just a leadership problem.
People think Democrats have no credibility on national security because THAT'S WHAT THE RIGHT WING KEEPS TELLING THEM, and the media aids and abets that message.

13. And it doesn't help when our so-called leaders repeat this. It makes
me wonder if the folks like Bayh, Biden, Lieberman and the DLC'ers really do want to win or they just want to stay in the background, reaping the lobbyist money and whine, whine, whine.

It's demoralizing to those of us trying to rebuild the party. And, that also makes me wonder if it's calculated. The worst thing some of these "big wigs" want is to have the "little people" start to come after them with pitchforks and donations. Or, to urge investigations like our hero's in the Black Caucus and Barbara Boxer and a few other "helpers" have done.

I loved Digby's whole rant on this because it just called it like it is.
Forget this "re-framing" crap. Put a few Dems out there who can call this what it is and we will win. People want to see leaders. They think the loud mouthed, name calling idiots of the Right are leaders. So we need a few name callers on our side to bring attention to our issues and let the leaders be like the Chimp...who sits back and lets his party define him for us. I hate to say we have to resort to low tactics but frankly "bedwetters" may not sound nice and may be hurtful to folks who have a serious problem...but it's time to take off the gloves and go after the DLC Dividers and the Repug Right wing.

National security is like fighting crime. There is nothing inherently wrong or right about it. All is in what you want to do and in what goal.

19. I get it.
Anyone saying something nasty about the DLC is speaking acceptable, non-divisive "truths."

Any DLC'er saying something nasty about the "far left" is being a divisive DINO.

What do I say? I think it's all crap.

Here's what Markos Moulitsas, the founder of Daily Kos, had to say about the recent near loss by Hackett in a predominantly Republican district in Ohio. From Eleanor Clift's most recent Newsweek column:

"Moulitsas is opposed to the Iraq war but says that isn’t what drew him to Hackett. “It’s not about ideology, pro-war, antiwar, it makes no difference,” he insisted. “In the online world, we need Democrats to stand up, not be afraid of Republicans, not be afraid of the right-wing noise machine … We don’t care about ideology. We care that you stand up for the party and don’t run scared.” He pointed out that bloggers backed Democrat Stephanie Herseth in South Dakota, who, he says, ran a Republican Lite campaign. “We’re pragmatic,” he says. If candidates aren’t 100 percent on the environment or they’re kind of iffy on choice, progressives should overlook these differences for what Moulitsas terms “the greater good,” which is restoring the Democrats to a governing majority.

It's about time we ALL started to grow up a bit and start acting like a united party.

20. Who's greater good would that majority serve?
If we're selling out Choice, it isn't women's.

If we're selling out the environment, it isn't humanity's.

Choice is supported by the majority in this Country, according to every poll I've ever read.

Strong environmental protections the same - people have even polled as being willing to pay higher taxes to protect the environment, if I remember correctly (it's too late and I'm too tired to go search it up).

There seem to be a fair number of "moderate" R's who get this - to their advantage.

These are life or death issues, it is sheer folly, IMHO, to speak of "compromise" on them.

22.  RWingers think that supporting Bush and his agenda...
...is for the 'greater good'.

But where do WE draw the line? How far OVER that line is acceptable? And if we continue to vote for Republican-lite (D)emocrats...wouldn't it eventually mean that the Right was successful in neutralizing the Democratic Agenda? It wouldn't be long before the two parties would converge into one....with only a small degree of separation.

The Right doesn't need to worry about banning abortion. All they need to do is wait until enough 'iffy on choice' Republican-lite Democrats are elected to office and they can simply get rid of it in a 'bipartisan' manner.

The 'greater good' must always be in the context of FOR THE PEOPLE. The greater good for the Democratic party should be about electing Democrats that believe strongly in our SHARED values and principles. NOT in sacrificing them in the name of 'winning'.

27. You need to highlight the guy's ENTIRE quote
DLC shills like Bayh don't fit the bill on the first part of his criteria.

28. I think the quote speaks well of those who place ideology above all else.
And that ain't the DLC.

29. Typical deflection
These are the ALWAYS the kind of answers people like you give when something like this is pointed out to you.
What the guy said is HE CAN LIVE WITH POLICY DISAGREEMENTS IF THEY WILL STAND UP AND FIGHT THE RIGHT WING FOR BASIC DEMOCRATIC IDEALS. Right now, all people like him (and me) are getting is having to live with policy disagreements.

24. Who is this corporate drone?
Since an earlier post made an issue out of Bayh having accepted corporate money for his PAC, let's take a look at someone else's corporate benefactors:

AFLAC
American Crystal Sugar Company
American Sugar Cane League
American Sugar Beet Growers Association
American Sugar Cane League (evidently, she has a sweet tooth)
Bank of America
California Credit Union League
Clorox Company
Edison International
First American Corporation
General Atomics
ICF Kaiser, Inc.
JA Jones, Inc.
Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.
MCI
Nabisco
New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.
PG&E Corporation
Providian Financial
Safeway, Inc.
Science Applications International, Inc.
Smithkline Beecham
Southwest Airlines
Wachovia Corp.
Washington Mutual
Wells Fargo

Who is this sell-out, this automoton carrying out the dastardly agenda of the corporatists? Is it Tom Carper? Joe Lieberman?

No.

It's Barbara Lee.

Yes, that Barbara Lee. The chair of the Progressive Caucus.

If it's wrong for Bayh to accept this money, then it's worse for Lee, ostensibly a paragon of ideological purity, to do so.

32. One has to look at the voting records to see how much
they "put out" for the money they "take in," though.

This post was about Bayh's comments and not his voting record or his contributors.

26. Bayh's presidential exploratory group is called "Bedwetters for Bayh"
why let republicans piss on you when you can do it yourself.
