Out of all this horror one of my small comforts is KNOWING that he go down in history as the worst president presiding over the most corrupt adminstration in the history of the US. I just hope the SOB knows it somewhere in his black little heart.

6. he won't even go down as a president
This time (2000-08) will have to eventually be blamed on someone because it is so pivotal. Blaming bush and the r-w for stealing the office that led to America's downfall as a superpower is most likely what will happen.

9. Well, in May of 04, while bush* was enjoying higher approval ratings
Historians already were calling bush* a failure..

Check out this link: http://hnn.us/articles/5019.html

Too funny for words, but here are a few comments: Of 415 historians who expressed a view of President Bush’s administration to this point as a success or failure, 338 classified it as a failure and 77 as a success. (Moreover, it seems likely that at least eight of those who said it is a success were being sarcastic, since seven said Bush’s presidency is only the best since Clinton’s and one named Millard Fillmore.) Twelve percent of all the historians who responded rate the current presidency the worst in all of American history, not too far behind the 19 percent who see it at this point as an overall success.

Read more, you will not be disappointed!

19. they'll say only the reign of Phillip II of Spain is comparable to Bush's
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 11:05 AM by kodi
no head of government besides Phillip destroyed the might and vigor of a society as Bush has. and where it took Phillip a generation to do it, Bush has done it in less than a half a dozen years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_II_of_Spain

in mathematical terms, under Bush (the Lesser) the equation for the arc of the history of the american nation fell to a negative second derivative. we have lost any acceleration of the american experience and we are now in decline.

history will not absolve him and those who supported him. history will damn them all.

20. The Emperor George I was the smartest kindest warmest ruler of all time
, with the exception of our current ruler (God save Jeb the Sixth!) who saved our nation and liberated a large fraction of our close primate relatives from despotic rule and the perpetual night of ignorance of their Savior Jesus Christ.

That what historians will say because Americans don't have it in them to resist Fascism anymore, and sooner or later having thoroughly corrupted electronic media and brought all communication there under its control, the Fascist takeover will reach out for the universities and book publishers, too.

And to call a coup d'état a coup d'état? Or to call warcrimes, warcrimes?

I'm guessing not for a long long time, long after the details are lost to historical investigation.

Events like we're living through tend to be inflection points for societies. They don't immediately snap back to normal after the criminal exits the crimescene. The reality of One Party Rule and near monarchy that Bush has brought with him isn't going away after 2008; so we will see the continued polarization of life in this country, with partisan political implications loaded into EVERYTHING, with ever more amazing contortions of viewpoint required to stay within the official "consensus", within the official "mainstream" of opinion, and with a continued rising tide of denial about THE ROOT OF IT ALL.

In order to reverse this societal decline, to reverse the One Party rule and the Oligarchy it serves will take a willingness to address the fundamental rot in our basic institutions. People will do ANYTHING to avoid confronting such intractable problems so things that were bad under Bush will continue to fester and worsen after he's gone. In order for the history you wonder about to be written and become our history, our common reality, would require a society-wide transformation and return to democratic values. Values are forged in foundational events of cultures and political societies. It would require a... transformational event... for America--a new birth in liberty someone once called it--for the history that you know already as a member of Democratic Underground to be written and accepted as Our History as a people.

That is a very steep price but it is the precondition of a true history, as long as we're talking about the straight, textbook, consensus, historical version of what went on during the reign of George I, and not some "Underground" counter-narrative. Without a transformation of politics and values, future American history of this time will read very much like contemporary headlines. It will be complete crap, in other words, with brilliant dissenting versions to be found only in the Academy's margins, produced by marginalized scholars for marginalized students.

28. Just lately, I've been worrying about how history will portray him.
Considering the amount of monkeying neo-cons and their supporters are currently doing to the information distribution systems, how extreme the bias in media has become, and how guiltless even our most esteemed journalists seem to be about those issues.
