>>Off-Topic: Novak and Inside Politics
OK, totally off-topic for the Mystery Pollster, but in all the hullabaloo about Robert Novak storming off the set of Inside Politics earlier today, I’m surprised no one noticed that big brown volume sitting on the desk in front of Ed Henry. As I emailed Mickey Kaus, it sure looks to me like a copy of Who’s Who in America.

Compare this screen-shot (via Wonkette via C&L)…<<

Sure looks like the same book to me! The book Novak is now claiming is his source for the name of Valerie Plame.

This just gets curiouser and curiouser

1. Right
He claimed he got his information from Who's Who and the questioner had brought a copy to have Novak point out where in there he got his info.

3. So all we have to do is go to the library to see if the Wilsons
are in the book, and if so, how they are listed.

4. and then he conveniently walks off the show before they can ask
"point to the name in the book"

Which begs the question: is her name in the book or not? Does anyone here have the book? Someone has to have this answer. . .

7. I have the 2005 and the 2003 in front of me
All they both say is:

m. Valerie Elise Plame, Apr. 3, 1998;

And then goes on to list children. It does not ID her as a CIA agent at all. And she does not have her own listing under either Wilson or Plame.

I can transcribe the entire entry, but it would take a while.

2. This is Novacula's stupidest excuse yet.
I'm SURE the Who's Who put "CIA agent" in her profile. :sarcasm:

6. Uh-oh!!, the Reynold's Wrap company is calling me!
:tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

Before the show, Carville told Novak, "Don't worry, Bob. I've got you're back. *wink*"

That was the strangest and funniest thing I've seen in a looonnnng time! Carville and Novak have worked together for a long time as opposing political stick-pokers. What Carville said was not over the top; Novak's reaction was. Since when did Robert Novak get thin skinned?

From my perspective, the "Just let it go" comment that Novak made to the host was in response to ummm...a "look" (as in should I say something?) that Ed Henry gave him. Ed Henry then replied, "Ok." While both Henry and Carville appeared a little confused about Novak's departure, they kept the show moving. So, maybe as I've seen suggested elsewhere, Novak was in fact told to leave through his earpiece and the remaining two were told to continue. Someone had control of the situation...I'm just not sure whether it was the producer or the players. Had it not been in control, I suspect a commercial break would have ensued.

One more thing on Carville's 'behavior'. While I was laughing and cheering at his comment to Novak, I fully expected him to give an on-air apology by the time the segment was over. One of those, "My good friend Bob" kind of things. Why? Because he didn't take the opportunity of having no opposition on the stage with him for the rest of the show. It was also VERY odd that Ed Henry announced he told Novak he was going to be asked about the Plame case. Everyone obviously had a heads up, but why was it necessary to tell the audience that?

Curioser, and curioser.

Question: What lengths would Carville go to in protecting his wife from prosecution?

10. Good Question
"Question: What lengths would Carville go to in protecting his wife from prosecution?"

Good point. I wonder if Carville himself is involved.

8. I watched the tape several times trying to figure out what book
that was. Thanks for posting. I think Novak saw it and felt cornered.
